eating too much protein - Saturday, June 28, 2008 7:53 PM
I often hear about 1g of protein per pound of LBM or bodyweight. personally i like to go by ratio's more but what if ur taking in around 3500 calories at 175lb. with something like a 40/40/20 ratio. then you'd be getting 350g of protein which is 2g per pound of bodyweight. is that too much? i dont know when the point gluconeogenesis occurs but i could see it happening at that point especially if carbs werent high enough.  this problem seems like it would be even more prevalent with those eating 4000+ calories

If you're trying to bulk up, why don't you decrease the protein ratio and increase the carbohydrate ratio?

You could do so if you feel like eating too much protein.

well i dont really "feel" like i'm eating too much, i'm just wondering if it's too much for me. 2g per pound seems like a lot

2g/lb bodyweight is fine if it works for you.

I hear excess protein is often stored as fat.
Read it somewhere.

It can be, a lot of the time excess is excreted. I wouldnt worry about storing excess protein as fat, I would worry about storing excess carbs and fat as fat. I would cut back on the protein slightly and make sure you are getting enough quailty carbs so you have energy for your workouts. What does your diet look like now?
