Are we talking football or basketball? I'm going to assume we're talking football. If I were training you we'd work in a lot of shuffle drills, cone drills, shuttles, and ladders. Centers spend a lot of their time moving laterally, either in run blocking (odds, chip blocks) or pass blocking assisting OTs. Centers don't spend too much time driving strait forward. Quick feet will set the elite linemen apart from the average, so I would spend the winter (most train indoors) doing little shuttle drills between cones and quick feet drills on ladders. Work on moving quickly, low and with big steps to keep your feet under you so you can explode on incoming defenders. If you can get ahold of a sled try this drill. Stand three yards to the left side of the sled. Quickly shuffle to infront of the sled and then explode on it, driving it for 5 yards. Focus on taking as few steps as possible, moving quickly and having your feet under you before you hit. Bend low with the knees and hips while shuffling and before the drive. Then move to the right side and repeat. It's excellent for centers because they need to be able to move quickly and pick up incoming linebackers. You can start 5 or 8 yards from the sled as well and practice moving as quickly as possible to drive the sled back. MAKE SURE your feet are under you before you hit it or the drill does no good. If you try to hit a linebacker without your feet under you they'll knock you on your butt everytime, so practice driving from the ground up. I'm in the process of putting more football drills and workouts on my site, so you can check out more there. The link is in my signature.
