I've seen a couple forum sites with actualy doctors or educated people about whatever the forum is about..

marc you might wanna find a doctor that is into bodybuilding and knows about muscles and supplements in a scientific way and try to get him to joining db.com... I think many people(doctors) would love to join this site because it is actually pretty fun being a member of a forum site.

I really think we need a doctor in here because i havent seen anyone that explains stuff in a scientific way on db.com, everyones questions are answered in a experiencing way on db.com

Well, we do have certified professionals here. At least I am. I'm a personal trainer and I'm pretty sure there are a couple other people that know what they are doing too. But I do agree that we need someone that talks in the cellular level and REALLY knows what's up. I only know the main bones, muscles, some chemical things. But I don't really write a lot on here LOL. Good idea 8pack

see what im saying is when we get someone like that, instead of the senior member or junior member sign, we should name him "doctor whatever", so everyone knows his educated

Gimme 6 years... im on it.
lol.

I get alot of Professional advice from another forum. I come here to read about personal experiences, or to help people with whatever i have learned from class, my professor, other professionals and the little experience i have.

Gotta attract doctors somehow.... throw in ideas people.

Pffffff

I was actually pretty pissed off at you guys for the way you guys insulted goalkeeper and made him get away from db.com, he used to give a lot of professional information.

"Fake Mr. O wanna be" or not, he still gave professional advice!!!! I felt like you guys were jealous : /

No offence guys, just saying what i wanted to saySmile

Your suggestion of a professional, certified Doctor (sports nutritionist too) on the forum is great.

But linking GK's advice and posts to "professional" information is a big reach.

I did not consider that person to be anywhere of the level of professionalism that we could look up to and take qualified advice from per your suggestion of a medical professional.

We have many people on DB now that are just as qualified but are much more real.

I Dont know who this goalkeeper person is, but the fact is that it is easy to give advice and polish it with sophistication to make one seem professional.
Personal trainers are fine, but we need someone further.
I like to learn about the science of bodybuilding, in fact that the whole reason i got into the gym in the first place. Now that i have trailed off topic, i'll just stop typing. lol

Yea I never got too deep into the chemical reactions with muscles and weightlifting. I understand why some supplements work chemically and the whole actin and myosin thing. Now I've been reading about myostatin and myostatin blockers. But I agree that wee need someone who is seriously devoted in their life to the science aspect of bodybuilding. Almost any moron can make it sound like they know what they're talking about with exercises.

We could also have a section to post questions that could be directed towards a professional.
For example if someone had a question, i could take the question to my professors and then post a reply on the site.

It's cool having actual legitimate people like that to give a forum creditbility (I am speaking with experience on this subject). The only problem I could see is the poor guy getting flooded with every minute little question (again, I have seen it happen), to the point that he doesn't even want to log on.

On the other hand, there is the opposite end of the spectrum: Getting someone of dubious credentials or experience, who tries to pass himself off as the chosen one in his field. Not only is there the danger of somebody getting poor or wrong advice, there is also the danger of someone here being told something that should be dealt with in a brick-and-mortar doctor's office that results in injuries serious enough that legal action is taken.

It seems to me that it would be a great idea to recruit two or more sports specialists (preferably bodybuilders themselves to ensure enthusiasm and credibility), set them up with their own area with an appropriate title, and put up a disclaimer that any advice that they offer is only opinion and NOT actual medical prognosis.

Three or four specialists popping in whenever could handle the flow easily, and having that type of information available could easily help prevent minor injuries from becoming major ones.

Two points.  (1) Physicians may or may not know the current state of physical fitness and nutrition information.  They have a huge responsibility for a lot of information and for a lot of patients.  You really do need specialists (not in the sense that it's used generally, but what I mean is someone who has a very specific interest in these areas).  It's just not possible to stay up to date on everything, and any one who has dived into the scientific literature (I'm raising my hand here) will find a plethora of half-assed "studies" that show different results.  It's not enough to read the abstracts of research reports; if you want to assess the value, you gotta spend some time on them.  I'm a cell biologist (Ph.D.) by training, but the thought of trying to ascertain what some supplements are doing (or not doing!) from a physiological to a cellular and molecular level is well, a lot of work.  Plus, a cell biologist thinks much more about systems, and is suspicious of a lot of "explanations" that kick around out there that are oversimplified.  (2) Despite my hesitations, there are brain-geeks that DO try and do this stuff.  One of the best I've found is John Berardi, Ph.D. (www.johnberardi.com).  I have one of his products, Precision Nutrition, and I think Veggeep has another, the Scrawny to Brawny program.  The PN product is not without its flaws, but they are pretty minor.  Someday I'll post a review on it.   He also writes a lot for t-nation, which truly is testosterone-soaked to the max (that's NOT a compliment!), but has some good articles especially if you ignore anything about supplements since it seems to be supported by a supplement company.  Another guy who tries to sort this stuff out is Christian Finn (www.thefactsaboutfitness.com).  He does a very thorough job discussing studies that come out (usually highlighting why I HATE the majority of these so-called studies, but then again, I'm not writing the applications for the limited grant funds, either).  He's not a Ph.D. or M.D., but his mind is sharp.  Both these guys have bodies that are enviable.
