I think pushups are a warmup not a workout.

I have heard of that, but every suit is a different type of pushups. If you do it right after each other I think it is a great workout

well the point is to learn...no need to ban somebody because theyre asking a question.

The workout would be good if you were trying to get better at doing lots of pushups.  Or maybe as cardio.  If youre trying to build some mass, it would not that effective.

ive started doing a set op push ups every morning when i get up, along with chins. not only does it wake me up, but ive found that its aided my endurance for bodyweight bench presses.

actually...this is a workout that some of my friends in the military do.  It is an actual workout but more of a game i guess...maybe you should use the search button first before you go off on someone for no reason.

This isn't a legitimate workout in my opinion and it definently isn't going to add mass but whatever floats your boat.

How would the search button help with that? I'm not doubting that people have actually done this I just don't think it needs an entire thread dedicated to it. When I look through these forums I'm expecting legitimate questions with legitimate answers from some experienced lifters (which is almost always what I see and why I continue to come here), not someone who wants to tell us about his push up card game and who doesn't use periods.

Its not a legitimate workout?

Everyone isnt concerned with adding mass.  There is more to working out than just bodybuilding and aesthetics.  This thread is full of ignorance.

Like said, if you're not interested, don't read it.

A) the whole " if you're not interested, don't read it" remark was after i posted.
B) I meant to add more but got distracted and didn't finish it; so my bad on that. However, a workout based only upon doing countless pushups is not balanced and  really isn't going to help you much from a bodybuilding and bodybuilding website standpoint. I do acknowledge that I don't know what this guy's goals are as shown by the statement "whatever floats your boat".

EDIT: Okay I would like to ask the poster. What are you trying to accomplish through working out?

to get strong i lift weights for that. this is something you can do to pass the time or have a friendly challenge with your friends to see who can do the most. u can change the push ups to some thing else like  pull ups, sit ups, dips something of that natural

i think there is a serious issue on this board of people taking themselves and the sport too seriously. this is a game, games are meant to be fun and if it barely contributes to your overall goal as a whole, so what?

im big into football (soccer), and sometimes me and my friends stand in a circle and play keep ups for up to an hour. it doesnt make you better, fitter or more technically gifted, but its a nice way to spend 20-30 minutes at the start of training instread of going straight into drills and set pieces.

aww that hurts i didn't think i was being too bad.

Really Billy as I said in one of my earlier posts, whatever floats your boat. It's your life and if you find doing a pushup workout to be really fun then it really is worth it even if it won't produce quite the results you want in some ways as other workouts would. If you like pushups (and i noticed you said pullup competition too), those are two things you can add into your daily routine that won't hurt. As a matter of fact, I do pushups every morning and i used to do pullups every other day. Fun stuff.

Unfortunately for me my dead lift isn't big, and im sorry if I seem like a major a-hole but I just don't see how this is worth a thread in the training and exercise forum.

Exactly. If you don't like it then don't even post anything about it, let the mods do what they think is right. Apparently you are just kinda mad because he posted another thread somewhere about not liking the Bench exercise.

As to the actual thread, I've done something similar to this for legs, where I got 10 cards and layed them on the floor, jump, squated picked up one, until you have all 10 then put them back down, or something like that cant remember how I actually did it.

OMG! You are so right, push ups arent an exercise because it doesnt add mass!

Depending on how many you do and the type of push ups you do, and the fitness your body is in, push ups will add mass, it will not in no way make you mr universe with pushups alone though.

I've done the card game, it is kind of popular in the military. We picked different exercises, aces were wilds, etc...
