Depending on how many you do and the type of push ups you do, and the fitness your body is in, push ups will add mass, it will not in no way make you mr universe with pushups alone though.

I've done the card game, it is kind of popular in the military. We picked different exercises, aces were wilds, etc...

Nobody ever said it wasn't a real exercise.

Oh right my bad, you said work out, not exercise, still the same sarcasm applies...

Okay you and Ectomorph are pissing me off now by twisting what i said. I said it wasn't a workout in regards to your original post which basically stated to go do a bunch of regular pushups or one armed pushups not all this other **** such as weighted ones and such which i am perfectly fine with considering part of a workout because as I said i've incorporated pushups, specifically weighted pushups into my workouts before. Regular pushups are fine as a workout if they are tough for you to do, but once they are extremely easy, you are losing some of the benefits of not making it harder, at which point i would be PERFECTLY FINE with you doing weighted pushups and calling it a workout, regardless of how crappy a one it might be all by itself.

according to what you are saying..light/recovery days in the gym are not a workout because they are easy. which would be wrong.   You can very the different types of pushups, close, wide, regular, diamond...ect..it makes it a workout.  like the fred said, if it gets to easy then you arent doing enough. Thats kinda like lifting weights, if its to easy do more weight/reps.

I never even said it's not a workout, i said it is not a legitimate workout as in simply doing countless pushups is not a workout that will produce the results that the poster is probably looking for.

I have to second Stone here.  Not everybody involved in working out is a juicing freak of nature.  No offense to those that are, as some of my friends are those same freaks, and I use the word freaks because they are, in a word, different from society.
Any for of exercise that involves the movement of mass over a range of motion should be accepted as a workout.  Just because you are more advanced does not make the next person's exercise any less legitimate.  Try to think back to yourself as a beginner, were you squatting 500lbs and benching 250???  Didn't think so.  If a 400lb man is starting to workout to save his life, do we mock him cause he can't do a push-up yet??  Perhaps we can find it in us to respect all people for their efforts and leave the holier than thou BS out of the conversations.

I saw something similar in bodybuilding.com with Jamie Eason doing a circuit training workout with the deck, she pulled a card and did X amount of reps for X exercise and so on with like 6 exercises. Tried something similar for a twist in cardio and it went well. Definitely agree that for gaining mass it is not the way to go...
