creatine resistance - Sunday, July 05, 2009 6:35 AM ( #1 )
I read a while back that about 10% of people are resistant to creatine supplementation.  I don't remember the source, so it could be BS.  Can anyone clarify or refute this?

A lot of 'highly trained athletes' don't benefit from creatine supplementation, however you aren't one, so you likely will. Your body makes creatine and you absorb it from food, so to resist it is unlikely.

Yeah I know that my creatine mono powder isn't my only source of creatine.  But the claim was that some people just don't respond well to supplementation, not that people resist creatine entirely.  I'm trying to track down the source of this info.  I thought it was someone reasonably dependable, but I've read so much crap over the last few months that I'm having trouble finding exactly what I'm looking for.  I have, however, found plenty other sources which aren't so dependable.  The search continues...

Well creatine can be difficult to enter into your body. Most of the time people just piss it out so what I do is take creatine mono powder with a gatorade. The glucose in gatorade allows for the creatine to absorb better into the body (glucose acts as transport).

Other creatine adds on dry weight, not the usually thought of water weight. This is creatine hydrochloride. I know GNC 189 creatine has this in it. I've used it for a cycle and had some good results.

So as far as being resistant to creatine is highly doubtful, you just have to ensure it is entering your body correctly.

If your dietary intake of creatine is high (lots of red meat) then I suppose supplementation wouldn't do much for you.
