I had the most absolutely crazy insane dreams for the first week when I started taking creatine. No headaches though.

BIGPOPPAPIT ive always been told drink alot or more water dont know y but it always seems to do the trick coz creatine absorbs the water and retains it. so u need to drink approx a litre of water for every gram of creatine you take to make sure the body has adequate water balance. also my gf has this theory about using water to "flush" out her headaches. i have no idea what she means by it, but it seems to work for her.

I've been dosing 50 grams of this a day lately but due to the headaches had to stop. Paracetamol did the trick but since I'm on methyls not a good idea

Your headaches can likely be attributed to increases in pressure caused by the creatine. Because creatine is a solUTE (a chemical that is dissolved in an appropriate solVENT) it is able to bring about concentration gradients between the cells and surrounding fluid/blood vessels. This happens especially in muscle cells and I can't find anything that says creatine differentiates between smooth and skeletal muscle. So, it is possible that the muscles of the temples, eyes jaw etc.. will absorb the creatine causing a higher creatine concentration in the cell than extracellular fluid, this causes the muscles to swell making them look larger, it will also drive the reaction of creatine + phospate ion--> creatine phosphate + ADP ---> creatine + ATP forward, the ATP is used for energy in muscle contraction and protein synthesis among many other metabolic processes. The down side is the increased pressure in the muscles of the head can exert that pressure on the brain causing pain in the form of migraine or tension headache. Drinking more water may help over the long term as it will help remove the creatine from your system. The initial bull that was out was you needed to "load" creatine, that would have the same effect in such a case of this as throwing a few extra scoops of table salt in your morning glass of water. The human body is capable of absorbing 2 g of creatine monohydrate per 24hrs, creatine is absorbed into cells on a diffusion gradient so the "insulin" spike that was hyped will do little more than give you diabetes. When using supplements you need to remember that few of them, especially the instructions that go with them were designed by biochemists or physicians, usually they are designed by marketing experts and mba's that are not interested in health except for the health of their finance portfolios. The supps work, some of them, but determine your own instructions. When you get home, tear the label off the bottle, write the product in it on the bottle in pen and turn the computer on. Patent searches for the ORIGINAL patents on the active ingredients, not individual products are good sources of info, sometimes the MERCK manuals will give indications and dosages of supp's. Speaking to physicians and experienced biochemists/molecular physiologists can be good (I accept PM's and answer quickly if you want biomedical opinion, there are guys here who will attest to that), and you have thousands of experienced users with a ton of anecdotal experience and personal experience you can draw on. You will get honest opinions from those not trying to make money off you. If you have loaded the creatine, you should stop taking it for a week, drink lots of water and resume at 2 grams per day after that, you will get no more headaches. If this doesn't work feel free to PM me and we can see if there is something else going on that maybe you don't want to mention in a post. I'm a Canadian so I can't even order tests for you, but I can probably tell you if you need to get to a doctor down there. Headaches should never be overlooked if they are chronic (meaning for more than the odd one that can't be treated with tylenol) they can be an indicator of something more serious, this is not to worry you. For example when I was in the army I went thru the same thing for months, it turned out that when I was in second language training I didn't sit facing the instructor so I spent all day with my neck at 90 degrees, i fixed that and they went away. It could be some lifting technique etc.. ask some of these guys in a post about ways they may have developed headaches and try to find the route of the problem. If used properly creatine shouldn't cause headache but it might aggravate an existing muscle/skeletal problem by adding strength and size to problem muscles.
