Quick and simple...

Yes you can take whey...read this pre and post workout post to get the most effective application for using it.

It helps with recovery and also muscle retention and growth.

However, you also need to support your goal with overall good nutrition, water, recovery, etc...

Read my gaining mass thread linked in my signature for the deeper understanding of gaining mass...

Cheers

To combine that info with creatine intake...consider this

Maximum strength and muscle were obtained when researchers had training subjects do this for 8 weeks:
30 minutes before and immediately after training they consumed a supplement equal to:
Whey Protein 0.18 grams per pound of bodyweight
Carbohydrate 0.2 grams per pound of bodyweight
Creatine Monohydrate at about .03 grams per pound of bodyweight (about 1/4 teaspoon per 40 pounds)

Creatine is NATURALLY occurring in foods such as meats.

The EFFECTS are desire-able and they are the reason the body uses the creatine phosphate energy system.

However, I recommend creatine monohydrate rather than other forms as that has the most studies (hundresds and hundreds)...
