cravings? - Monday, February 23, 2009 10:40 AM ( #1 )
Cutting for the first time here, and I've never tried to lose weight / or function at a calorie deficit before.

So, I'm getting severe cravings.  The most notable of which is for beer - a good malty smooth & dark microbrew type of beer.  So strong that I can completely imagine it & smell it & my mouth is salivating.  Not the best craving at 9:30 am or so.  lol.  Pretty strange, especially considering I don't drink a whole lot.
Anyone else get cravings, and what do you do to "cope" with them?

Oh boy, I sure do! I definitely crave beer when cutting, but I have a sweet tooth... so I tend to be headed in that direction haha.

Just try and snack on some healthier things that might get your mind off the beer. I don't drink any beer when cutting, but I wish I could. >.<

Hmm... so I guess my sugar cravings are manifesting themselves as beer cravings.  Interesting.

I'm not a big fan of sugar and dessert type food.  But when I cut, after the first month I crave it like no other and then it becomes hard to say no.  If your cravings are too bad I think it would be best to eat a little healthy food to satisfy it like something high in protein.  It won't completely fix it but can make it go away.  And if you can keep away from the site of anything you are craving, so beer commercials change the channel, don't keep it at your house.  Good luck though, do your best and it will pay off.

When I'm cutting, I'm usually pretty strict with myself, BUT I will give in to a certain degree......for example, if I just have to have a piece of candy, I figure I'm actually craving Sweets, so I'll eat an apple or some strawberries.  Craving a hamburger or pizza, I'm either craving carbs or fats, so I'll be me bowl of oatmeal or make me a steak.  Sometimes it's ok to give in, just give in the right way.
Beer though, man, wish I could help.  I crave that too when I'm done working in the yard and the BBQ is going, hard standing there with my water instead of a cold beer.

Strangely I dont get cravings a whole lot and this is my first big cut. However, I have gotten a few on occasions, and its usually for chocolate...im sure for the sugar.

What I usually do is drink a chocolate flavored shake or have a chocolate flavored protein bar, etc... gets rid of it while still following my diet.

Dont know about the beer...I absolutely hate the taste of beer. haha, everyone has a cheat day meal, so why not just have a beer one night of the week, drink it slow and enjoy it...

I just finished my first cut; at times it was difficult.  Luckily, I have never liked beer or sweets, so I haven't had to deal with those cravings.  During the beginning of my cut I was kind of leaniant and I would give in to my cravings for pizza/wings once every week or two, but then I realized that it was significantly hurting my progress.  Once I got my priorities straight, it was pretty easy to ignore my cravings.  One thing that helped me a lot though was watching the food network.  I don't really know why, but it helped me a lot.  I was only eating 1 large meal every day, usually lunch, so it gave me ways to be creative with what I ate, even though I ate almost exactly the same thing every day.  I learned about spices and different ways to cook things, and it helped a lot.

Plus, I finally realized that the sooner I stop indulging, the sooner I'll be done with my cut and the sooner I'll be bulking up again, in which case I'll be able to eat more of the things that I crave.  That is, if I still want them...

Also, I had never been able to see my abs before now, and now that I can, it's pretty good motivation.

I didn't exactly mean it like that. Just saying I crave both beer and sweets when cutting. More the sweets than beer though.

When I was loosing weight I always made sure to eat some healthy carbs
in the morning and this seemed to help with cravings. I liked grits and would have those at breakfast. Oatmeal would probably be just as effective and a bit healthier.

I tend to crave chocolate as well.  I usually will make a chocolate peanut butter shake for my next meal. Sometimes I will put a little dark chocolate in it, but I am still bulking.
