chest question - Wednesday, May 20, 2009 2:41 PM ( #1 )
when I do my chest workout the left arm/side chest is alway much more dominant.

like on my last set of presses my left arm will be able to fully extend while my right arm can't get the weight up.

so i have a couple questions.  1. what muscle is causing that?  is it the chest or is that more tricep?

second, how would i correct that?

do dumbbell presses and see what gives out at a lower rep point.  Too difficult to tell when using a bar because you make thing the left is stronger because it still has energy at the end, but maybe the right has been compensating for a weaker left, or the right may be firing faster and harder and therefore failing first....

same thing with dumbell presses.  its a lot more evident once im towards the end of my routine, my left will still have some strength/energy while the right is struggling,  just the last couple reps not the the whole time.

I had to switch over to Dumb bells myself. My left side was lagging my right with a straight bar after an auto accident after thanksgiving day. After 2 months of pushing DB's my left side has been doing much better.
Try to concentrate on moving both sides at the same time. I have had to adjust my right (strong) to meet my left (weak) at the top of the movement. After a few months you will see your bad side coming alive.

Switch over to dumbells for a while...

The more dominant side of your body will always take more of the workload, seeing it's stronger, just remember...when you do dumbell bench presses and your right side fails, lay the dumbells down on both arms...not just one...
