I change exercises every 4-6 weeks.. I take a 1 week break from training every 8-10 weeks.. and switching up your routine every couple of months is a good idea. Keeps things fresh and interesting. New goals, new angles of hitting the muscles. Variety is a very good thing. I think after 2 months of a routine it's time for a switch.

THANKS MDA... Variety is good... where'd you hear that one? Awesome!

I change workout routines every time I go to the gym, I never do the same exercise combinations or order. I also change my set rep combinations every 2 weeks. I'm definitely on the extreme side though I think 6-8 weeks is standard for a complete overhaul.

WRONG! Here we go... I'm gonna list a few, just a few chest exercises for you:

flat bench w/bar, w/ cables, w/ dumbells
incline bench w/ bar, w/ cables, w/ dumbells
decline bench w/ bar, w/ cables, w/ dumbells
not to mention the wide variety of machines Hammer Strength happens to be my personal favorite.
incline flies
decline flies
flat flies
once again machines for flies most guys like the pec deck
cable crossovers with an assorment of different angles.
pullovers cables, dumbells, ez bar, straight bar.
push ups
ball push ups (another personal variety, basically one handed)
dips

Just a few exercises that I could list off the top of my head... i think there's enough there to keep you from ever having to repeat an exercise 2 weeks in a row.

Never tell a man who touts variety that there are only a few exercises.

This man was in the desert. He could probably do a workout routine with a shoestring and a rabbit's foot.

Good post D.
