cardio/respitory - Friday, June 13, 2008 10:32 PM
I'm really new to this site... really im new to any body building forum.

i've been working out for a year or so and seen some imprvements, not as fast as i'd hoped with work and high school and all but improvements.  the biggest problem i have is my cardio and respitory systems.  i live with my mom and dad whom both smoke around the house, that being said i was also absent from extraciricular activities for a year so not alot of activity.  just wondering if anyone had any advice or workout's to work cardio and respitory well.

thanks,
scott

Running, swimming, jumprope, bike riding. Alot of simple things will help. I used to smoke cigarettes though, and two years later i'm just now feeling like my respiratory system is getting back to normal.

Do your best to stay out of the smoke and just get out and play. Basketball, football, biking, soccer - it doesn't matter. If you have fun you're more likely to keep it up.

research HIIT depending on your goals

by improvements, i'm assuming you're wanting to lose weight.

Fun aspect is crucial and will push you beyond what you thought possible.  I used to play basketball for hours and hours on end because it was fun, so I pushed through the lack of wind and developed my 2nd wind this way.  You have to find your niche yourself, I can run on a treadmill, but others may not be able to, so experiment and develop a passion for something you like.

It is important to balance good cardio with weightlifting for total health and fitness, so don't neglect one or the other.

swimming does wonders, especially breath holds by diving down for stuff at the bottom.
