cardio sounds good. you said you already lost a few pounds (isn't that good?) i would not recomend high reps low weights your not gonna build much muslce that way try waits that are difficult 8-10 range (you should have little trouble doing your last rep) rember it wont all come at once a pound or two (two if conditions are PERFECT) is normal jsut stick with it and you'll get there

FOR FAT LOSS do cardio every mornin fresh outa bed....i do 40 min runnin program on my treadmill 5 days a week at 620 am...i wake up, stretch and run....do it on an empty stomach but if ur stomach is churnin a lil bit then maybe have HALF a scoop of whey protein....by doing it first thing in the morning on an empty stomach, ur body resorts to burning your fat and foods ur body has stored.

Get off the elliptical. It's probably the most ineffective of the cardio equipment. You can do great intervals on the treadmill (increase both spead and incline), and the bike. Even the stairmaster, or God help you if your gym has them, Jacob's ladder. Intervals are good, but if you've been doing the intervals the same all the time, then their benefit wears off. Consider increasing intensity and shortening your rests. What's the diet look like? Are you eating slightly fewer calories/day than your body needs? What kind of calories? As far as lifting goes, it seems that everyone has a different idea about lifting and cutting. I think the most important thing is to keep lifting, and keep challenging the muscles. Don't let your body think that it doesn't need every milligram of muscle.

Oh, and to your specific question: If you can't alternate days of cardio with lifting, then do cardio after lifting.

The 50 minutes of cardio sounds great but how is the intensity? If you would say that you are an intermediate when in comes to training, your intesity on the cardio should be 60% to 80% THR (target heart rate). Once you get yourself to the higher end of this 70% to 80%, you must maintain this for at least, at least 20 to 40 minutes. First you must find out your RHR (resting heart rate) - Do this first thing in the morning upon rising for 1 minute. Here is the method of finding out your THR (target heart rate): 220 - 35 (age) - RHR x 60% + RHR = 220 - 25 (age) - RHR x 80% + RHR = Note*The average RHR is 70bpm for men and 75bpm for women. If you have any questions about this, I am sure a trainer at your gym could help you out.

ORIGINAL: gzinkl Oh, and to your specific question: If you can't alternate days of cardio with lifting, then do cardio after lifting. I had the same question as the Original poster.. what is better, before or after to lose fat.. Wouldnt it be better to do it before so you get your heart rate up and metabolism up before you lift, also wouldnt it stretch you out a little? I get up at 5 in the morning and i have to get home by 6:15 to get to school on time. If i run for 30 mins should i do it right when i get to the gym or should i do it after all of my workouts?

I can't say this enough, everyone reacts differently, if the Elliptical is working, keep doing it. I lost almost 100lbs doing nothing but dieting, the Elliptical and lifting weights. If it isn't broke why fix it. The elliptical was very effective for me. Good luck man! Keep at it!

But that was the point in the original post--there were no more results. Something seems broken. No harm in trying a new type of cardio. 50 minutes is a long time to be on any of those devious torture devices.
