When I competed I never did any direct ab work at all, yet my waist was ripped. If you want a ripped waistline you must eat right and eat less calories than you burn.

Post your diet in detail, also post your body weight body fat % and training program.
If you can bench press more than you can squat you should be ashamed.

If you just want your abs to show change your diet so it has no junk food what so ever, maybe have a small calorie deficit and do loads of cardio everyday. If you want huge ripped abs you need to do weight excersise with your abs in the range of 8-12 reps. To get your abs to show you need to reduce your bodyfat% which is what your doing above.

Mike, I know for a fact that, although for you especially it is incredibly hard to gain abs, they are still possible. It really is just about body fat percentage. When we figured yours out the other day, 14%, that tells you right there, that you just need to stick to a diet, with a type of cardio together. Although when football season starts, we like to eat all that AMAZING crap they serve, if you want abs I wouldn't. I'd say 90% is the cardio and dieting. 10% is the actual abs themselves. I'd say 90% is enough, without the abs, if you really want them. Diet when football camp starts in August. Restrict yourselves from the guilty pleasures of foods, (the cheesesteaks, waterice, cakes, pastas) and I promise, abs will come.

Absolutely

Would you do 100 biceps curls every day? No?
So why do 100 crunches a day?

Concentrate on your workouts, keep your mind on the muscle you are working. Stabilize your body using your core muscles. Try the Plank for abs work once a week. And get your bodyfat down.

We all have a 6-pack, even if I've never managed to see more than 4 ... I will get the last 2!

I also have the same problem where no matter how hard I try I can't get defined abs.  Right now I am running twice a day, dieting by eating strictly, and I am taking hydroxycut hardcore.  I will give this about a month and see where I am.  Any suggestions or any words of advice to help my regement?

Normally, we all have that much sought-after 6-pack right there under a layer of fat which is more or less thick depending on the individual ...

Normally, people who do abs exercises get sore abs, stronger abs, and nothing more.

Normally, cardio - and correct nutrition, is the only way to get that fat off the abs so that everyone can see the 6-pack.

OK, as far as everyone having it, that statement's good. The muscle is there, more or less developped, but it's there. No discussion on that part.

As for the soreness and strength ... I've never been able to get sore abs, no matter how concentrated, how much weight, or what "weird" contortions I try. Maybe I'm not the only one either. Strength wise however, yes the abs get stronger when worked correctly, no doubt.

That brings us to actualy being able to show the darned thing! Clean nutrition, 90-95% compliance with the nutrition plan (i.e. ONE treat/week, not the whole day or even a whole meal ... one glass of wine, OR a small desert, OR a gravy on the steak ...) is the first thing to decide on, focus on, and have at the top of the "Actions" list of your goal card.
Directly below is fasted cardio 5 days a week. Whether you prefer steady state for 40-50 minutes or HIT/HIIT for 15-20 minutes is entirely up to you :) I'd rather go with a long power-walk with the dogs for company and the birds singing as nature wakes up, but it's your choice.

If you see that you are still not getting enough definition, I would first cycle my carbs - no starches after lunch - and then, if that's still not enough, add 2 or max 3 shorter cardio workouts later in the day on non-weight days.

Assuming of course ... plenty of rest and plenty of water.

Seeing your abs is a great thing.  For the first time in my life I can see mine (4 of them, atleast).  It's freakin' weird to see it too haha.  I'm at about 11% BF, and I assume you need to be at about 6-9 to see the whole 6 pack.  I can't really add much more than what others said except make sure you work your lower abs too and do HIIT if you're up for it.  I found it the best way to burn fat.
