-
Tuesday, June 21, 2005 4:06 PM
hey i was training in my school, florida, for the past four months. and i was practicing bench press with 135 or 145 eight times with no or little help. Now im here in costa rica visiting my family. and im going to the gym here, but seems like im losing strenght. because i tried to practice with 145 and i couldnt do it, they had to help me in every single one of my reps. dont know why but it was not the day cuz its every time i bench, here in costa rica. can it be the change of diet or something like that? oh yea and the same happened when i curl. thx Pablo

Hmm, are the bars the same weight? Do you think you might actually be benching more than you're thinking? Typical barbells are 45lbs, maybe they have something heavier? Not sure, seems weird. I don't think weather or dieting (if you're still eating right) could have that much significance in your training.

Definitely weigh the barbell, it's probably a 55lb one.

The other responses are correct, the bar weights might be different. But in response to your question - Can climatic changes making you weaker? The answer is Yes. There have been several acclimitisation studies done to compare muscle endurance and strength & VO2 max in different environments. Without going into too much details, the long and short of it is, that yes it can. But ofcourse it depends on the severity of the climate changes.

sadly is not a 55 pound bar its a regular 45 pound one... which sucks. cuz im as strong as i was 5 months ago... i feel as if my gains were lost. and the climate is different but you can hardly feel the difference.

Has this just happened the past week or have you felt like youve had a loss of strength for a while now?
