bulking and summer coming - Monday, May 15, 2006 11:41 AM
Hi I have been bulking for well over 2 months now and have seen good gains. Unfortunately due to my higher calorie intake I have gained a bit of a belly fat.

As summer is approaching I want to do some more cardio however I do not want to do so if it will damage my gains from lifting

If I try cardio on my rest days will it affect my growth overall? I would like to hear if anyone has any experience or advice on this please.
Cheers
Russ

you can retain what muscle you have put on over the past couple months while trying to shed bodyfat. Its hard for most to gain muscle and loose fat at the same time. You need to choose one goal.

I heard glutamine helps a lot to stop your body from breaking down muscle while you cut. You probably won't lose that much muscle hwile cutting anyway.
If it wasn't painfully difficult then you didn't do it right

Im not trying to cut, so i eat as i Bulk, Lift as I Bulk, but do cardio because i want to keep my BF the same or at least from going up too much.

So i do Monday, Tuesday Lifting Weights
           Wednesday heavy Cardio
           Thursday-Friday Lifting Weights
           Saturday heavy Cardio

Im pretty sure that if you lift 15reps and up, and eat right food for cutting, you get great results!

Have Fun!

You think girls look at what you lift...or what you lift it with?

Keep it moderate, not more than 3 days per week I would say, 30 mins or less.

focus more on my sit ups lol

This won't reduce the fat in your ab area, though. Situps will work the abs, but the body decides where to burn the fat from- There's no such thing as spot reduction, or working a specific area to burn fat in that area. The body just doesn't work that way.

so will situps actually help get a 6-pack in the long run, or is it just a waste of time?

Hey russ222,

Sure you can do cardio, but just not to overdo it since you dont want to sacrifice any of the hard earned muscle mass you gained. You might start with very light cardio like 30 minutes on the stationary bike or maybe evern walking on the treadmill (incline). This way you can burn some fat off and not worry about tapping into any of your lean muscle tissue.

Here are several more very helpful bodybuilding tips I found for adding muscle mass:

Best of luck!
