breast implants... cheating?
-
Thursday, July 07, 2005 10:52 AM
I saw about 5 minutes of that A&E show "Cleavage," and there was a competitive female bodybuilder being interviewed. She was saying that all the pros get implants and it's kinda' required if you want to win. How is that not considered cheating? Wouldn't a guy be looked down upon if he had chest or butt implants? I've only very recently started paying attention to bodybuilding as a sport, so I have no idea what the general consensus is. Just wondering.

It's not really cheating as much as it is to keep the females ... looking female. Breasts are basically fat. So when a competitive female bodybuilder starts getting massive amounts of muscle and more testosterone... they all but lose their breasts. The implants bring back the female quality that they lose. I'm talking female competitive bodybuilders. Fitness females also will lose a fair amount due to low body fat percentages. I think well over 90% of female fitness competitors have implants as well.

Agree from personal experience, losing body fat has drasticaly reduced my breast size and there's not alot to do about this in the gym apparently. Not looking for implants (never ever) but I can see how competitors would find them appealing.

No its not cheating in my opinion, because the breast is predominately fat, not muscle. A man getting breast implants, or calf implants, is to enhance the look of muscle, not the look of fatty tissue in a breast. I believe in some of the competetions, women are required to still have a femininity about them. Something they lose when doing strenous training/supplementaion/steroid use. So whereas a man would do it to mimic muscle, a woman is doing it to mimic feminity. Although, I DO see your point in that if you are judged on femininity, purcahsing a set of breasts may help in that area, and give you an edge over your competitors....but I am not sure if they judge on breasts in the hardcore bodybuilder shows?

Besides, most of the pros use synthol anyways.

Speaking as a judge, past show host and pro competitor who is naturally chested, it does not play in except maybe in points for overall appearance as it adds to the aestheticly pleasing look. Of course it looks amazing and may help with the style of suit you can wear ect, and I speak from experience of my own being frustrated that I am not enhanced so I always need suits with underwire and how hard it was when I did bodybuilding and wore a posing suit, but as nice as they look I have not jumped on board. I don't think it makes enough of a difference that it will overshadow the talent of the competitor in fitness or the physique of the competitor in figure. Linda

So are calf implants ok? They do improve the aesthetic view also. Funny, the female judges I know mark down for implants. Rightly so IMO. If BB competitions are about glandular tissue, well then...guys?

Hard to say myself... I'm sure that breast implants would count towards a more asthetic female look myself. This whole thing is a big personal issue to myself. My sister has breast implants - because she is unable to attain a decent natural breast size should this disqualify her from BB/Fitness comps? I don't think so. She decided to get implant before any competition (and is unlikely to compete in any competition). Should getting breast implants before competing in any competition make any difference? Should getting implants while competing in competitions higher/lower the score?, I really don't know. This is really something that needs to be decided on the judging side of things. This is what makes bodybuilding comps so hard to judge. Do I judge on muscularity alone? Asthetics? Overall? Factors like this probably make the female competitors more difficult to judge than anyone. On the asthetics side of things it's probably comparable to the mass/asthetics arguement with men. Personally I lean towards the Robby Robinson. But that's just me.
