brand new to the forums - Wednesday, February 27, 2008 6:29 AM ( #1 )
seems like it's almost customary to post an intro thread in here so i will follow suit. i've been working out for quite a few years off and on, but never really stuck with it for a significant amount of time. i just started working out again as my new years resolution, so i've only been at it again for a few months, but this is where i'm at right now.

i am about 5'11" on a good day and weigh somewhere right around 160 (weighed in at 165 fully clothed a few weeks ago). the biggest problem i want to address is that i don't have the deep cuts i want. i can see abs, i can see definition everywhere, but i don't have that 'hard' body.

goals: get up to about 175 of lean muscle.
i know that at the moment one of my biggest constrictions is that i don't eat enough to put on any real mass. trying to change that though.
unflexed:

You have a looong torso. Me too. Great starting point. You're going to have to eat big and lift heavy and you could gain that mass in just a few month if you are a beginner. If you put some mass on you probably wouldn't even have to cut, your bodyfat is low already.

i wanted to go for more of a mark wahlberg look... not really sure how else to describe it

and i HATE my long torso. makes it hard to look good. and i make real good gains when i work out, i just never eat enough. with my upcoming move i should have plenty of healthy foods to up my caloric intake. once i start eating a lot i should gain mass pretty quickly. i definitely need to work on the chest and lats though. those are 2 points that drive me crazy.

Your chest looks balanced with everything else so don't put extra emphasis on that. Build everything together. A long torso is good, it makes you look taller.

i think my chest is too narrow. it lacks the width it needs to make it look big. and i've heard that about a long torso, but i think it makes me look somewhat awkward since i'm not really cut. i'll get there though.
mark wahlberg - i'm in love with that picture in the most heterosexual way possible. that's exactly what i want out of myself.

phil - friday, man. we'll hit the gym and it will be good.

lohking(or however you spell your handle) that's more of a martial arts body. while it looks great, i am looking for something a little more.... bodybuilder-ish and less functional?

haha.He got that from dragonboating.Thats the outcome.IMo,i think u should focus on widening ur lats and buliking ur chest. In dat way ur long torso would come to use.

Tomorrow sounds good for me. We aren't working chest, but I can spot you so you can see how much you put up. Then I can run you through an Ab routine. :D

meh... at least i'm not fat like i used to be. i'd rather be skinny like this as a base because i have decent genetics that will allow me to gain fairly quickly. the only thing that holds me back is eating enough and that will change very quickly. at one point i was about 180 lbs with ~11-12% BF, but then i ate like crap and stopped working out and jumped up to ~200 lbs. so basically, i realize that i'm starting fresh and have a long way to go, but it will progress and all i need to do is wait.

this was me about a year ago. wasn't too bad, but i'd rather be skinny and work my way back up.

Is that WITH a spread, or without?

Looks like you already have the proportionality to make for a SICK 175.  Wahlberg never had that kind of waist-to-shoulder ratio.  This looks far better, IMO.

Per Ficarra's advice, if you can manage to mass that out evently on HITT, without bulking out your waist too much, you're gonna be good to go.
