i need someone to judge my form for sqauting, and also a new exercise i have been doing lately. i spread my feet apart and then move my feet pointing to the left, and to the right, and then i do like a squat. but anyway, i need to know who will judge, i will make a vid when i workout today.

ha ha, i know there will be stupid comments made towards me, there always is, but i rather have someone's opinion to see if i am doing it like the book says. the ones who rip, usually like to sound like a badass, so i will chill out on this one and let people say what they will.

Swole for your sake I suggest you take that vid down before you get ripped to pieces for doing 1/4 squats.

Its ok, dont feel dumb... I just thought with how long you have been on here I thought you knew better. You want to go down that low, or even lower if you can. Strip the weight down, and practice full Azz to ground squats it will be the best thing you ever did for your training. After massive back injuries throughout my above 20 years of life, I have had to drop WAY down in the squat department. I currently have a hyrniated Disc that drives me nuts. Doctor says don't do them...ahhh Yea sure. Just watch your form. Get that correct then add weights to the bar. Before you know it you'll be pulling some good lifts. Go to it!

the reason i have always done it like that is b/c i didnt want to damage my knee. from time to time, my right knee gives me problems, but it is just every so often. not on a regular basis. THIS IS ONE THING BAD ABOUT WORKING OUT BY MYSELF.

THIS IS ONE THING BAD ABOUT WORKING OUT BY MYSELF. From my understanding, 1/4, 1/3 and 1/2 squats do more harm to your knees than a full squat I did not see the video, but I can tell you that doing full squats is the way to go

ORIGINAL: RedJeep Where the **** is the video? I think it was taken down due to "legal issues" Getnswole was gonna get torn a new one if he kept it up, and Kris thought it as a liability... I whole-heartedly agreed with his decision. I didn't get to see the video... but as a personal suggestion, don't let anyone put you down due to the weight that you're using. Just check the ego at the door and do what you're comfortable with, and good form. As long as you're seeing results/progress and you know you're doing it right, it don't matter how much weight you put up. Now you have an idea of the form that you're supposed to use, so get to it big guy. I've been using the smith machine for squats cause I'm scared of falling over or not being able to get the last rep without a spotter and just falling to the floor haha. Got a new personal best today... 195 for 8 reps! Legs are probably the easiest body part to make some HUGE gains quickly before they slow down.

yep swole... phersan gave some good advice. i missed the video myself as well.. but it sounds like you learned what you needed to for now. the rest is up to you. but as phersan said, you're not there to impress anyone, so leave the ego outside. i have re-learned squats 2 times now, and i'm just now feeling comfortable with my form. i started with barely 40 pounds on the bar. your knees will be fine. by doing ATG squats, you're shifting the stress of the lift from the knee to the quads/glutes. but.. doing 1/4th squat leaves all the pressure right on the knee instead of letting it stretch like it's supposed to. anyways.. goodluck. and props to you for putting up a video. just keep working at it.

thanks for the words of encouragement guys. i am sure everyone has been there especially with squats. i have watched an assload of videos on proper form but didnt actually get to watch myself doing squats. i will watch more video's on them and then get to it next week. or should i? would it be better to do something else instead of the regular squats? like holding a 50lb plate in my arms and doing a body squat? also, what if i change everything i do? like instead of doing bench presses, i do push ups, and so forth.

Got a new personal best today... 195 for 8 reps! Legs are probably the easiest body part to make some HUGE gains quickly before they slow down. Fear of falling to the floor is no excuse to use the smith machine. You are doing yourself a dis-service by using it. That's what those safety bars are there for in a power rack, so you won't need a spotter. ORIGINAL: TheSilverFox doing 1/4th squat leaves all the pressure right on the knee instead of letting it stretch like it's supposed to. It's moreso that the hamstrings can't contract to counter the force from the quadriceps in the 1/4 squat. That's what causes the extra knee pressure. Just an FYI

by avoiding the problem.. that's no way to fix it. we've told you what you need to do. take all the weight OFF the bar, but continue to keep it on your back. and just start working on that form. when you're almost touching the ground with your butt, and your knees are lined up with your toes, and when you're NOT leaning over too far and using your hips to move the weight... THIS is when you proceed to add weight to the bar. MINIMAL weight. baby steps. by all means.. please do NOT downgrade to smith machine, or nothing at all. that's like going from a corvette to a geo metro. just start fixing the problem swole. you'll be ok.

you're right. i just meant that he shouldn't be leaning over and relying on his back to start the motion of the squat from the ground. but rather, he should be relying on his hips. is that better? if not.. well, i just suck then
