well i got up to 3 x 5 with 185 lbs but now i can barely do 3x3. before an injury the exact same thing happened to me. the only chest exercise i would do was flat bench becuz when i did more my bench would remain the same and just doiin 3x5 was workin for goin up 5 lbs every week. but since im stuck im thinkin about doin this. keep in mind this is not my hole workout just the chest. i do heavy push light pull light push heavy pull routine. week one monday Heavy push 3x3 flat bench 2x8 flat db press thursday light push 3x8 incline bench press 2x8 incline db press then next week 2 monday heavy push 3x3 incline bench 2x8 incline db press thursday light push 3x8 flat bench 2x8 db press. then go back to week one upping the weight 5 lbs if possible. i do more push exerccise but they are the only chest ones. ive tried alot of things to get my chest stronger but nuthing has worked to break past this. what are your thought?

try this,i tried it a while ago and it helped me- take your maximum weight on flat bench press, perform 1 rep then re-rack the bar-pause for 10 seconds then perform your next rep re-rack for 10 secs etc etc until you have got to 10 reps(or as many as poss!)try and get 2 sets of this done.the idea is that you decrease the amount of time you pause for by a couple of seconds(ie down to 8 secs)every week so eventually after a month or so you wont be be re racking just holding the bar as you would normally with a normal pause(2 secs),obviously the mental aspect is that your max will become somthing you know you can lift ok!of course for more advanced lifters this may be of some benefit but im guessing by the weight your in the early stages so more suited to your needs than them!try it,but maybe with a spotter at first!!!
if you're not continually learning then you're listening to the wrong people!!

one thing you might try and focus on is moving the weight a little faster.

Another suggestion that you could consider is to train your triceps hard. And by that I mean close grip bench and skull crushers. Don't waste your time on cables.

- Monday: start with a weight you know you can do 5 sets of 5.
- Wednesday: 10% less weight than Monday.
- Friday: warm-up & attempt a personal record.
This put about 75 lbs on my max bench press before I got a shoulder inury.

As jane said try working with higher volume.. 3x15 with 50%RM for a couple of weeks then continue with 3x12 with 60%RM for another couple of weeks and so on, continue increasing the %RM used and decreasing the number of reps untill you get to your usual 3x3 or 3x5 or whatever.. You should also check out the wave method
Squat max - 275lbs 30/07/09 Bench max - ¿? Front Squats(atg)- ¿?

what i did was a workout i learned from a college football coach.. 55 reps in 20 mins.. so for example i usually usw either 205,215,225,or 235 to do this.. 55 reps in a total 20 minutes, first go i try to bang out as many as i can, sometimes its 12 sometimes its 5.. but you need to get to 55 rep in under or at 20 mins..it helped me a ton
