Yup we are fat. I was speaking to an Australian lady on the train and she has a degree in some sort of food engineering and she was ranting about how fat and unhealthy the US Population is.  I couldn't really defend us because as she was speaking numerous people kept making trips to the snack cart to buy unhealthy processed junk to put in their bodies. It's unbelievable how much junk people eat in a short period of time.

To be honest I really dont think its going to get much better, or get to where we need to be.

With advances in technology and the direction society is going as a whole, we are just getting more and more lazy. Videogames, junk food, processed food, fast food, machines, internet, etc etc... even in gyms, how many squat racks are there? how many machines are there?

some of those things being great for man, like the internet and machines but were getting to the point where we are forgetting what its like to do some good old fashioned hard work. Its almost sickening at the same time as amazing that such things can be created and used to help mankind.

But with all good things comes moderation, and unfortunately, especially the American public we are just depending on technology way too much and we are getting far too lazy.

Double edge sword IMO.

Im sure some of you have seen that movie Wall-E. While a little far fetched with the story, I really dont think something like that is far off in the future where almost everyone is considerably overweight or obese because they rely far too much on machines and technology, and they just eat processed fast food and nothing good for you... :P

/end rant

my gym has ONE squat rack, and i absolutely hate when people curl in there! although my workouts do hog the rack, but i actually need it! except for deadlift, it isn't really required but there simply is no other place with the room. way too many machines and incline/decline benches!

Until they stop putting HFCS in everything and make processed foods the main staple it won't change.  But I'd be considered overweight and not a chance i could survive on 2k calories a day, I'd have a nonstop headache.

The I LIKE CHEESE is what I usually drop into a online conversation during someone else's heated argument, when the argument has no purpose.  And McDonalds is my response any time I am asked a question that I don't really care about the answer.

Anyone seen "super-size me?" Anyway, I agree America is fat and it's getting worse. I remember my first semester in college, I've always been active and loved being out, everyone there wanted to do nothing but play video games with the exception of an hour of week of basketball or so. I was amazed at how 20 and 30 year olds still let their life revolve around an X-Box.

Don't get me wrong, I still occasionally play my system too, but I don't let my world revolve around it. I basically play madden and grand theft autos whenever a new one comes out and a month later I don't touch it until about a year or so. I remember my cousin calling me and telling me about how a wii has gotten him in shape.

sometimes you need to think before you write... being born into a geographical disadvantage, has nothing to with a persons someones genetic disposition for survival...

The dirt poor in this country, the homeless... the truly needy, and impoverished here, have it about a 1000 times better then the poor people in poor countries.

The way we waste food in this country is absolutely deplorable,  and there is no reason, or excuse... Wasting food is not trait that will advance our species or (even though it is processed as such) a trait that exemplifies or is proof of a higher position on the evolutionary ladder.

I agree that wasting food it bad.  However, any time we give food aid to a starving nation, like Africa for example, the food is confiscated by Warlords.  The Warlords probably don't even need the food-aid, but they take it anyway.  Why should my money go towards giving a nation food when it's just going to be stolen by a corrupt person of power?  I would rather not give any food aid, and put the money toward bettering my own country when this is the case (and it's the case in almost all food aid situations).

Not to mention the wasteful spending that goes into researching ways to better preserve food to give to them.  In 2007 1.6 million dollars was spent on Asparagus Technology.  They wanted to find ways to preserve asparagus better so it could be given to other nations as food aid.  That, is a waste of money in my eyes.  I would much rather have seen that money go towards anything domestic, hell, they could have given it to your building as extra budget money and that would be fine with me because it improves the community.

Since when did help have to come in the form of a hand out... helping growing nations take advantage of their own resources in an environmentally responsible or at least symbiotic  (not that we do that here) manner, and educating, assisting a growing nation,  and it's people... helping them acquire technology or use existing technology, only helps to further the global community... and our community is global... if you don't understand that your fooling yourself...most people are fooling themselves...

oh I am sorry, we can't do what I propose, because then there would be no slave labor to further our crumbling Rome....

i got sick of video games in the 8th grade...i played them so much i just cant bother to sit in front of a tv like that. and as for the asparagus preservation thing, millions of dollarrs every year go into preserving foods, not just for other countries but for our own as well. if everyone agreed that was money wasted you wouldn't be able to walk into a market and by 1/10th of the things you can now, on top of the fact that food would become seasonal.  you think apples and bananas can sit out for a year and still naturally be ok to eat? preservation serves the US as well, without it most farmers would be out of business and most of the country wouldn't have a steady caloric income.  i personally can think of a thing or two, such as war, that wastes way more money and has no beneficial  outcome.

I like food infact i love it and im finding it very hard to stick to a good diet and if video games were to take the place of the gym i'd be one fat bastard so its a good job ive never been the slightest bit into them.

Yet those starving nations are like that partly by fault of your own and my country, the resources they did have to be richer nations were long exploited and drained by us,many of the power hungry rulers you speak of are actually put in power by leaders of western countries and controlled like puppets but you have to dig deep and read other material other than trash tabloids/media to discover this.

The details of my life are inconsequential... My father was a relentlessly self-improving boulangerie owner from Belgium with low-grade narcolepsy and a penchant for buggery. My mother was a 15-year-old French prostitute named Chloe with webbed feet. My father would womanize, he would drink, he would make outrageous claims, like he invented the question mark. Sometimes, he would accuse chestnuts of being lazy--the sort of general malaise that only the genius possess and the insane lament. My childhood was typical: summers in Rangoon, luge lessons. In the spring, we'd make meat helmets. When I was insolent, I was placed in a burlap bag and beaten with reeds. Pretty standard, really.
