I dont think I know of anything that compares to the deadlift...or any of the various forms.

there are other great back exercises, pull/chin ups, rows for example.

But then I would also have to say the only way for you to learn the form is to do the exercise yourself. Start out light and work your way up.

haha the deadlift is king!

no other machine or replacement excersize is going to help u like the deadlift.

just stick with realy low weights until u get ur form down. this is an important step!!

How are you going to learn correct form if you aren't doing the exercise?

well i been trying to get my squat form correctly first..
when i do the exercise and my knees dont pass the tip of my feet when my thighs are parallel. but for some reason my knee and My middle/lower back hurts after i do the exercise. I feel like my muscle memory will get confused if i try to learn both deadlift and squats at the sametime.

Lighten the weight and don't lean forward so much?

If you have the 10 lb deadlft plates, use those to learn. Keep deadlifting, and work on form. If it's still bad, post a video. I posted a video and my deadlift improved a lot IMO. Still needs work, but it's getting better.

That is ludicrous, there is no reason to think you cant learn both at the same time.

when you are talking about the pain are you talking about the deadlift or squat?

How much weight are you using? You may need to just start with the bar..

Forget alternatives. Nothing works your body like deadlifts. Even if you only use the bar it is better

than not doing it. Use extremely low weight until you get your form down, because once you get into

higher weights you will get injured if not using the correct form. Like nmoney said, you can do both

squats and deads without confusing your muscle memory. Not sure where you heard that but that doesn't

make sense, that's like saying you can't do benching and squats at the same time.

Get a vid of your squat as well.

I'd start with the bar because it seems like you're having problems with form.

I think deadlifts focus more on the core muscles, rather than the latissimus dorsi. So, pullups/chinups and rows could not be considered for deadlifts.

Well, to answer the question, I agree with you. Start low, and learn how to execute the exercise properly.

Your back hurts because you probably are putting the bar too high on your back.  The further the bar is from your core, the more stress you're putting on your back.  You also might be rounding your back too.  That will cause un-needed stess.

The knee pain could be from different things, so it would be hard to tell what is causing it unless you posted a video.

do some stretching.  get down on your hands and knees, and arch your back upwrads like the "m" in mcdonalds...     then, arch it the other way. stick your butt out and press your back/stomach down towards the floor and stretch it that way.

now you can deadlift.  and i highly suggest you lower the weight down to something that seems unreasonably LOW.   work your way up slowly, focusing on correct form the whole time.

if you're doing deadlifts with large amounts of weight and think it's impressive to others, but have bad form... you're just asking for an injury.

Pumping the iron, moving the lead.  I hope all the attention I get doesn't go to my head.
