iv always felt guilty when i find myself on a friday night having a drink, i put so much hard time in at the gym all week, spend so much brain racking time on my diet, so much time into studying the sport and everything that goes along with it, just all these things i do. so my question is, can anyone give me a lagit and expercianced answer on how much of what im putting into this is getting thrown out when i have that drink on a friday night. and when i say drink, of course its more then just one.
You eat, you lift, you heal, YOU GAIN!!

I'm such a lightweight and have no life so this rarely affects me. I always thank myself in the morning to limiting myself to two drinks. Ever since I started trying to bulk, I can't stomach the thought of throwing all that lifting and eating work down the drain by drinking too much. They say the most muscle building takes place during good sleep. Drunk sleep is not good sleep. Plus I go from a very mild buzz to dancing around the coffee table naked, peeing in the laundry basket, and not remembering it. Not the most flattering behavior. :(

No one can tell you exactly how much it will affect you (although Marc David did post a really good article on its effects, i think it is in the nutrition stickies). In the end, you're going to have to decide what's more important: the ABSOLUTE BEST gains you could POSSIBLY have with no drinking, or respectable gains while being able to go out and enjoy life. Personally, I like option 2.

I drink my a** off every friday and saturday night. This is usually combined with lots of s***y eating as well. I like to have fun though, so I don't care if it's cheating on my diet.

Basically, kills your ability to build muscle and puts fat burning on hold. So its really bad for a bulk and just kind of slows you down on a cut. Not as detrimental on a cut though IMO. depletes liver glycogen, dehydrates, lowers muscle building hormones, may hinder performance right after, basically keeps you from growing.

May sound corny, but I'll take the feeling I get after a good workout over a good buzz any day.

Last summer I drank all tha time and I was alot smaller and weaker than I am this year but I still stayed real lean easily. I also never wanted to do anything or go anywhere where there was nothin to drink, it just wasnt fun.
