about lifting heavy weights and getting strong - Friday, September 05, 2008 11:49 AM
Be cautious when lifting heavy weights.  You will only get strong but you will NOT GET BIG MUSCLES.  You will also get fat.

If you want to get big you must follow "hypertrophy" routines.  Routines that focus on heavy lifting will not get you big.  Beware.

Curls are the most important exercise there is if you want to get a big and ripped body.  Only do high reps with light weight though, or you will get fat.

If you do not want to get fat, lift extremely light weights.  Just to be safe, maybe use the pink dumbells.  Using the purple dumbells may even be risky.

So in summary, how to look like an Ambercrombie and Fitch model:

- Run on the treadmill every day
- Lift weights, but only sparingly
- Do not lift heavy weights, pink and purple dumbells are suggested
- Curls are king
- Base your diet around salad, and stick your finger down your throat frequently

I was sincere in my questions. Never did I say I wanted to look like a model. I am trying to understand the complexity of weight training. I don't think this thread is necessary.

This thread is for all the people that say stupid crap like

- "powerlifters are fat"
- "I want to get big, but I don't care about getting strong"
- "I want to get big, but I don't want to lose sight of my precious abs"
- "no no, I'm trying to do a hypertrophy routine, not a strength routine"

Lift heavy, eat a lot, stay away from mcdonalds.  There is no "oh if I lift this way, I'll get a nice, ripped physique, but if I lift that way I will get fat."

You lift heavy and eat a lot to build muscle.  You will inevitably get stronger by doing so.

You then cut the fat off if you want to look ripped.

Well I never said any of these things. I don't know where you gathered this from me simply wondering why a master of body building and coaching doesn't have a better physique. I was just asking.

You then cut the fat off if you want to look ripped.

Acujeremy - Rip chooses not to do this step.  Looking ripped isn't that important to him.  Me neither.
