Ok, this is for the OA Challenge 2006 that Jeff Anderson is running.  I'm not sure why we all call it our OA "journey," but in any case, each journey starts with a first step.

I will be journaling both diet and workout, as well as thoughts.

Day 1/Week 1 ("1-1") October 2, 2006

All I'll say is that it felt very strange to work *just* shoulders after the types of workouts I've been doing for the last few months.  Ouch!

Oooh, I've also joined a new gym (a World Gym, how much more bodybuilding can you get than that?!?), and am trying a different schedule--I'm going to try to workout during my brain's slowest part of the day--between 2-5 p.m.  It means working through lunch (which I can do, and eat at the same time!), but hopefully this will increase productivity on two fronts!!!

LOL didnt you pay like 2k to be a life member at your other private club one? I find myself asking everytime I go into LA fitness why I keep going there, its all machines and very little freeweight... like 2 squat racks, which I dominate all of my leg nights, and some of my shoulder nights and chest nights.... Sorry didnt mean to hijack, good luck on this Z, I'm sure you will tear this program up as much as you will your muscles Smile... BEEFCAKE!!!Smile

Great start!  I'll be doing a journal as well.  Today is my first official day as well.  Been eating perfect (almost) for the last 2 weeks and doing the easy workout Jeff suggested in the beginning of the program.

Yes, I have a lifetime membership for Ballys, but I don't regret it.  The annual dues are so minimal now, and I can go anywhere there's a club, it's still handy.  And it's close to my house.  The World Gym near work is cheaper to get into, but more expensive in the (very long, e.g., years, run), but it's location is very sweet (1/4 block away from the office) and it has predictable slow periods.

Anyplace that has more than 2 squat racks is a dream gym to me!!!

Conservative size.  That means add mass with the least amount of fat gain possible.  Jeff has the program divided into three flavors:

Stay same weight / burn fat / build muscle

Lose weight / burn fat / tone muscle

Gain weight / burn fat / build muscle

I'm in category 3.  Burn fat and build muscle, probably only possible because of the increase in testosterone, although the fat loss is not too significant.

If I gain 10 lbs of lean muscle mass, I'll be a very happy camper.  If I gain 15, watch out!  My excitement will be over the top as I preen in front of the mirror! Smile

Someday, Marc will have to compete against ME, and not me against HIM! Smile

Hmm...  That sounds like a bit of a challenge...... Marc does look awefully studly in the Muscle Milk lite thread Smile

Keep in mind...

The Progressive Phase means bringing each set to MUSCULAR failure.  Which means, you can go a lot heavier than you think and either fail right at your 12/10/8 scheme or be within 1-2 reps of hitting it.

When I first start, I always hit my target reps and I'm not always at failure.  Which means during this phase, you can and should go heavier.  It's what makes the O.A. program so damn hard!

Can you imagine muscular failure with 30 seconds rest between exercises?!

Anyway, I'm proud of you Greg.  Not only did you pass the bar exam but not many lawyers have the nuts to train like this and really give it a go.

I think you'll notice some serious changes in your body after 7 days and towards the 3rd week, your journal entries are going to rock!  Smile
