Ripped is the other reviewer, and her review can be found here: Designer Supplements Replenish Review I'll review all aspects of the product, from packaging, to the physical characteristics of the powder, flavor, and of course, how it fits in with my exercise plan. 1. Packaging I've attached a picture of the packaging. Nothing new here. Your standard tall protein-powder jug. Which means, of course, you've got to dig to get the powder out, especially as you deplete it. I'm not sure where that trend came from, but it's never been a logical one to me. The jug is black, which helps distinguish it on the crowded shelves, but it's not BSN's electric red (and to me annoying) eye-catching color. Grade: C+/B-. The label on the front is hard to read, especially if you're in a hurry. Just look for the dark label with purple hue. Purple on black/grey. The advantages of the product, like ripped noted, are in purple and hard to read. Except for the part that is black-on-grey--also hard to read. "Watermelon Splash" the flavor, is in bright, eye-catching and easy to read pink. I give the front of the label a "C-". On the other hand, the "non-front" portions (give me a break--it's a cylinder!) is easy to read, and large type white-on-black. None of MuscleMilk's 6 pt (or less) font, requiring a magnifying glass and patience. The part of the label that describes the product is informative and refreshingly brief. Grade: A The scoop it comes with is very nice. The handle is in the bottom third of the scoop instead of near the top or at the top like most others. While a little different in the scooping out the powder, it is easier to dump in the shake cup without spilling. I don't know why, but someone must have studied the ergonomics of that. Or got lucky. Grade: A (BTW, the label promises that more exotic flavors to come. I'm not sure what exotic means, but I always associate it with "tropical" although nothing seems more American to me than "Watermelon"-despite its African desert ancestry). 2. The powder It's fluffy. This ain't like any other powder I know, protein or recovery (Protein: Optimum Whey, MuscleMilk, ProPeptide (or is it PeptidePro--whatever, never mixed into water well, blech), Lean Dessert Protein (LDP); Recovery: Endurox; pre-workout: GNC's version (blech)). It's a silly criterion in my review, but what the hay--Grade: A Of course, you don't care about the fluffiness of the powder it it doesn't go into solution. It goes in very easily. You will not be shaking it so much that you'll fatigue yourself. It goes in even better and faster than MuscleMilk or LDP, the two best before in my experience. Grade: A+ The freshly shaken shake has quite the head on it, though, which I suspect is from the oat fiber (but I'm totally guessing). DN/DS could easily do a spoof on the "Got Milk" ad compaign, because you'll get a pink, bubbly upper lip when your downing the shake after your workout. "Got Replenish?" or "Got Muscle?" Texture (of the liquid--not sure what the correct term is): the shake isn't thickish, like a MuscleMilk shake that has been allowed to set for a few minutes (or the RTD version). But it's perfectly fine. Frankly, I'm so drained and ready for my shake after a workout, all I want it to do is go in solution and down my throat. It is a little gritty (again, I assume from the oat fiber), but the grit is very fine. I mean, it's a post-exercise shake, not a beer. Non-flavor characteristics grade: B+ 3. Flavor. Ahh, this will be harder for me. I don't like watermelon. I mean, I tolerate it, but that's it. On one hand, it's nice to not have yet another metallic-vanilla flavor out there. But watermelon? I'm not sure what the market analysis studies said about that flavor choice. Or was it because in its unflavored state, that's what its taste came closest to? In any case, I will update my review of the flavor after comparing it to other watermelon-flavored items, including Jolly Ranchers, bubble gum (I think Bubbilicious was big on WM in my teen years--is that even still made?!?), etc. So I can't call it delicious, but that's my own flavor preference. It's definitely more than palatable, so that goes in its favor. I'll refrain from grading it right now other than to say that it is above average for protein shakes. The flavor is full, not watery, and true to its identity. 4. As a post-workout supplement. I can't tell you much at the moment--it's much too early to see if there is any correlation to anything. My current routine is Twin Peak's Triphase Progressive Training, and I'm in the low volume of the volume-loading stage (which means there hasn't been much of a challenge for supplements, although for me, that's another matter!) Stay tuned! (BTW, my workout log, for you, my adoring public , is at Twin Peak's Triphase Progressive Training. Guinea Pig: Me (Z).) Thumbnail Image

BTW, I am a reviewer because Designer Supplements graciously selected me as a tester. Other than the free jug of Replenish, they have given me nothing more than their request to review the product. I'm hoping to be as objective as I can, so that the product can be improved (if possible), and that you, the gentle reader, can decide if you want to give it a go.

ORIGINAL: 40 yard dash 2 Nice detailed critique. Have you tried Watermelon Xtend? Many people compare Replenish's taste to it. In fact, they say Replenish is a bit sweeter. Hi Art, no, I haven't tried Xtend, but if it's cheap enough for my wallet, I'll try and pick up a small jug to try it out next to Replenish.

Z, out of curiosity what are the nutrition facts on it per serving... calories, fat, carbs, proteins... is it isolated whey protein or casein? Thanks

Any changes in regards to recovery? Because the workouts aren't the same as before (they rarely are!), it's hard to say with any certainty. What I DO know if that in the past, if I would have done this routine, I wouldn't make it through this kind of volume/body stress without getting ill. or injured. I would chalk my continued health in relation to the routine to (1) being more trained (and smarter) than when I would have tried similar routines before and (2) better post-workout care, which of course would include Replenish. I still have a good half jug to go, and it looks like it will last at least partly into the second phase of Twin Peak's plan to knock off the weak--oops, I mean, Triphase Progressive Training!

ORIGINAL: 40 yard dash 2 Look forward to reading your final evaluation once you've finished the tub. I still have about a 1/3 to 1/4 of the tub to go. I've weathered the first phase of your colleague's alleged training program (the triphase progressive training, but I think it's his way of establishing dominance in the gym by knocking of his victims), and I'm spending my time before phase two eating food and drinking water like a madman. On that point, I'll have to say that there seems to be a correlation with my surviving that phase--where it is programmed to take you to the edge (it did, and I was a very unpleasant bastard to be around)--and Sustain (as well as my other food and supplements: Udo's oil, multivitamin). And I didn't injure myself. About half the time, I was biking 4-5 miles home after the workout (UGH!), so I was thankful to have the protein drink after the workout but before the trip home. As far as the flavor goes, even though I'm not a watermelon guy, I've become immune to the flavor, which I guess means that I've gotten used to it.
