Cougarlifter.. I hate to be the one to burst your bubble.. but the 4th and 5th are only quarter squats... Not even close to parallel.. I believe you mentioned ATG... Couldn't see the first 3 because the camera was too high but they from the angle they appear to be quarter squats as well...

Advice.. drop a hundred or so pounds and go all the way down..

I'm assuming your the high school JR who said he could do 500lbs ATG?   that was who this post was meant for.. if it's not you.. Sorry..

Nah.... don't hurt yourself.. by looking at the video it seems you're under a tremendous amount of stress.. trying to go heavier or lower with that load could possibly get you hurt..

Best advice would be... drop a 100lbs off the bar and go all the way down.. within a month or so, you'll be hitting higher numbers than ever..

There are some other form issues that you'll want to look at too - probably going to a lower weight will help straighten them out... On a couple reps for instance, you're sorta doing a good-morning out of the bottom. And you're craning your neck way back looking at the ceiling which is screwing up your posture.

I think they're more than 1/4 squats but wouldn't powerlift qualify and certainly not atg. I think it's much more impressive for someone to put 225 to the floor for reps than 1/4 squat 405.

Bump*  Do full roms.   There are some really big guys in my gym who don't give a damn about the weight but they are going damn near ass to ankles.    I pretty much just about ass to ankles.  It's more impressive when it's a full ROM.

I do want to throw in that I think it was real ballsy of you to post a squat video. Squat videos always get torn up here. It was cool of you to post the video anyway.

Yeah I have to admit, I have not seen one decent squat video on this website.  That is my honest opinion.

Heh, I actually took some squat videos shortly after I got my rack, but I didn't post them because I was embarrassed. They were actually plenty deep, but my form was so ugly and wobbly and I couldn't believe I didn't break my back. They've improved a lot since then, though, so maybe I'll take a new video.

I think anyone who picks apart a squat video should have to post a video of themselves. That could be a real eye opener!

I agree 100 % that 225 ass to the grass is more impressive then 315 almost parrele.......so drop some weight and drop the hight... sounds easy enough

That can go both ways.. some of the best coaches I've seen look like 3rd grade girls when they dry to demonstrate...

They know the technique...but just can't make that connection from the brain to actually physically performing it....

If I'm going down to a bench, about 16-18 inches off the floor, is that too high still?  It's definitely below parallel.  I like having it there as a security blanket.

Floor bench doesn't do anything compared to a regular flat bench to the chest regardless of what anyone wants to say about it.  That is just my opinion,  Most people who are benching 90 degrees or to far above their chest have shoulder problems or are worried about the weight to much.   I have to admit I laugh my ass off everytime I see a half way bench or a quarter bench..  Might as well throw a block on your chest and do board press's because thats pretty much all your doing, it's not a bench press "I wouldn't go around bragging about my numbers"

As long as you're going parallel or lower, you're fine.. but If I were you I would drop the weight and go all the way and work your way back up.. If you go all the way, you'll feel muscles being used you never knew you  had..

IBB, i think yet was talking about squats.. But I have to disagree with you on the floor presses... I use to do them with DB's and they're incredible Tri builders.. I never actually used them for pec development..

I heard the same thing.

I did misunderstand his post.

What your doing is called a box squat basically yet.  Nothing wrong with that but it's still not really a full ROM.

I guess I get that. I've coached buddies from 385-455 or something like that but obviously I can't demonstrate. But I think I can do just about everything exercise/form wise I would coach someone else to do and demonstrate it...I think...

You were already told it's half squat, so I won't say it again :)

ya those squats arnt even close to parallel,  try doing 225 without the back brace to get your form right

i personally used to do squats in competitions  but since those days are over i only do 225 for 8-15 reps and go paralell it seems to work for me

oh ya, and look up^ like ibb said, it straightens your back out and allows you to drop your ass more instead of your whole body

totally agree also.  look where you want to go.  keeps the back flat, the butt out and keeps you from swaying from front to back/falling over.
