I don't know if I am just weird or what, but when I am lifting a heavy set and then when people around me are shouting and trying to encourage me, it doesn't help. It just totally distracts me and I actually just lose the weight and start laughing some times. And you all know how laughing in the middle of a lift can kill it. Is it normal to not want people to talk to me while I'm lifting? I love just lifting to my music. I find I am psychologically the most prepared then.

Both friends and strangers not only yell, but if I am lifting without my training partner for some reason, they will come over and try to help me with the weights or try to spot or whatever. You ever have anyone lift the weights for you when you specifically say you don't want/need it? So frustrating! I appreciate their good intentions, but leave me alone.

One time I was really struggling on my 8th rep of the incline bench press and was barely getting it up, when my TP said "only 4 more". The idea of 4 more was so rediculous I started cracking up and down went the bar. At least he was paying attention enough to catch it for me, since he was the one who made me drop it. Laughing + lifting = not a good combination.

maybe he meant 4 more negative reps...LOL what i hate about getting spotted is 1. and most important how people think just because they are spotting you, they have to lift your weight for you... i hate these kind of people. fortunately i know enough guys at the weightroom now that at any time i can choose a person i know that can spot properly, and only help when i'm on my last rep.. 2. people that don't know i'm on max ot, and are expecting at least 8 reps..., sometimes i do 5 and they are like "4 more"...and kind of pressure you do more and totally tire you out, and half the time doing negative reps.. Fortunately #2 can easily be prevented, i just tell the person spotting me before-hand that i'm only doing 4-6 reps. and what i hate most about not getting spotted is... getting stuck with that bar on your chest..LOL happened to me when i was going to failure... it was only 115 lbs but on my very last tired rep i couldn't lift it, i rested it for a sec on my chest... tried again... failed half way up...so i leave it on chest for about 20 seconds...try again, fail...so now i just sit there with the bar resting on my chest... short of look like a complete ass miserable asking for help with 115, i left it there... till a friend's like .."yo need help" my ribs hurt for at least 3 weeks after that whenever i did my chest...
