Just for the record, I'm not considering this at all, but thought I'd your opinion and maybe a few laugh's out of this... I was talking to a few Navy friends of mine and they were telling me how hard they have to work out and that they have PTs every three months so they have to have low body fat. The guys told me that what they do to makesure they pass is wrap themselves for 3 weeks before their test. This is rubbing preparation H all over their stomaches and then talking a deep breath and wrapping plastic wrap around their waist. They say the can lose up to a 4percent body fat a week. They swaer by this... so I just thought I'd get some opinion or ask if anyone has ever heard of this..

I don't think it's the best idea, unless it's for a short term thing like a comp, just as Old Navy pointed out. Wrapping like this is done to tighten the skin and to sweat out water- But keep in mind that your body needs water to function properly, and any prolonged practice of stuff like this won't end well at all. You wouldn't stop drinking water just to lose weight, would you? On another note- I have no idea why your navy friends do this. I've been through their PT routines, and tests, and while they can kick your ass, there should be no reason for this sort of behavior to pass those tests. Am I right, Old Navy?

They told me they do this just to make sure that they pass their physical test that they said they have every 3 months. I thought it was really weird and would assume that if it did work that it would stop working once you stopped wrapping your self. I guess it would be something you would do to get a jump start, to actually see some results and then you would have to really work out to keep them. Even if you work out alot, since its water weight, it would just come back right?

The weight lost through wrapping is not a permanent change.

Exactly. And yes, the weight would just come back, since all you're really doing is dehydrating yourself- Using it as a jump start of any sort isn't a good idea, since you'd be striving to keep a stage you got to with dehydration- And when you gained the water weight right back despite your best efforts, you may be tempted to wrap again. Getting in real shape takes time and efforts, not tricks.
