Working out Biceps - Thursday, April 12, 2007 4:07 PM ( #1 )
Ok so right now for my Biceps during my workout I do alternating dumbell curls and I guess pushups help too, (and of course thats all plus my other stuff) but I don't quite feel the burn in my biceps like I used to. I tried getting heavier dumbells but that helped only for all groups BUT my biceps.
 
What I am asking is what are some good other workouts that I can do for my biceps? Right now I only have a set of 20 pound and also a set of 30 pound dumbells, I am just looking for some workouts I could do or something like that. Thanks in advance people!

Well I feel a little burn on my biceps after doing pushups is what I meant.

dont' get fixed dumbells if you are tight on cash. get the loose ones which you can increase in increments. that should take care of your lack of weights.

second of what kind of bicep routine do you have? how big of a break do you take in between one bicep workout to the next?

mix up your bicep routine(don't do one kind of exercise), when you don't have equipments, be creative. if you had some kind of bench that had an incline function it would help mixing up the routine.

do different kinds of curls: preacher curls, standing curls, hammer curls, would be some suggestions. also try doing pull ups in your routine until you manage to get some form of gym membership or gym equipment..

and pushups don't help your bicep, it is a body weight exercise that focuses primarily on your chest and triceps. After you reach a certain number of reps in pushups, it no longer provides strength, but endurance.

pushups will help to a certain extent on your tri's, which make up more of your arm then your bi's do.
 
You need to get a more complete weight set up or join a gym or YMCA or something. just hitting bi's and other random muscles you won't see hardly any gains.

try doing twisting dumbbell curls and make sure you fully extend your arms before you do your next rep .. to make sure you are fully extending your arm flex your tri's for about a second then do your next rep that way you are working your arm a lot more and the twisting bit makes your arm work harder :)

yeah I'm doing the twist thing for curls.
 
Well I used to have a gym membership but when I heard that freeweights help more than one muscle group whereas machines only focus on one, I was interested and then I found I was getting more of a burn with the free weights at first, but taht was a long time ago. I dont have enough time now with school and all but this summer I will definately get a gym membership again, I know a good place to go too.

The gym SHOULD have free weights. If not don't go to that gym, Find a new one, save up for some free weights, OR if you have the proficiency and a welder build yourself a squat rack and a bench then all you really have to buy are the bar and weights themselves.

Right now I I find that barbell curling exercises tend to help me pack on dense mass, while throwing in some dumbbells help to pump them up a bit and increase their size.

You can do many things with just dumbbells and/or minimal equipment. Here's a short list below:

-Alternating DB Curls
-Hammer Curls
-Concentration Curls
-Preacher DB Curls
-Pull Ups

I usually use the first three as my biceps are pretty large in comparison to my triceps, which I really need to be working on the most!

make sure if ur going for strength and size, keep the reps low and the weight high bt not high enough where u cant keep form, try for 6- 10 reps with a  weight tht is hard enough where ucnt do more then 6-10, though if u want endurance then go for high reps

well I pretty much do 10 on each arm, I always do 5 sets of 20 reps for ALTERNATING dumbell curls meaning 10 on each arm so I am ok with that but can anyone link me to a site or tell me what are preacher curls and hammer curls, and concentration curls? Sorry if this post had ****ty grammar

alright well all this was a while ago but yeah I realize that pushups dont help biceps lol sorry about that igrnorance....
and yeah I am gonna try doing reverse curls and maybe concentration curls next time I go to my gym. I kinda wish I could do preacher curls but my doctor advised me not too since of my unhealthy body fat percentage but yeah I started doing pull-ups too which help a little

This is true, or you need some more Equiptment... My football/Lifting coach showed us something and its givin me good gains recently, curl slow, and flex(tense) your bicep once youve got it at your chest, do this on every exercise... Keep your routine changing too...
