I'm just getting back into working out and I realized that the supplement Androsten that I used to take is now illegal. The product was supposedly 100% safe so why would they make it illegal?

If you're referring to the Andro that Mark McGwire "used" (along with a bunch of real gear that he had hoped to cover up by leaving a bottle of the over-the-counter stuff in plain view), that is spelled a little differently. Congress banned it a few years after Big Red brought it into the forefront, much to the chagrin of Patrick Arnold.
