Why arent I gaining?? - Saturday, July 19, 2008 10:41 PM
Please help me out if you can.  Im looking to build muscle but seem to be having a little trouble doing so.  Im 5'11" about 160 lbs, 10% body fat.  I've been lifting regularly for about six months, heavily and more dedicated for the past 3 months M-F different muscle group every day.  I'm taking whey, and currently a mass stack consisting of Methyl-V test, Vaso Test, and ProZMA, this is the second stack I've done (tried a different one before with seemingly no result)  Workouts consist of no cardio, 6 sets of 12, 10, 6, 4, 4, reps increasing weight, failing on the last for each set.  I've noticed that I never ache the day after, as if I didnt do anything, does this mean anything?  I've gained maybe 2 lbs at the most and I've gotten slightly more bigger but Im looking to put on some serious muscle.  Definetly willing to work hard for it, but need some help.

Thanks

I think so, around 4500-5000 calories a day, 1 gram protein per lb body weight, carbs after workouts.  Lots of water, OJ and protein in the morning with some carbs to stop the night catabolism.

Try doing 3 sets of 10 reps instead of whatever you made up.  Also, what kind of exercises are you doing?

You are probably doing no compounds at all...
Squat, deadlift, bench, pull up, overhead press. Got me 15lb in 2 weeks and maintained bodyfat :)

i don't really believe that.  if you're eating that many calories a day, you're going to gain weight.  switch up your routine, do more compound workouts.

when you actually do eat like that, you'll put on the weight quickly.

also, during the 6 months, have you taken a week off?

that's EXACTLY what i said in the under eating thread too.  people come on to the forum and know the right answers, so that's what they say. but they don't actually practice/do it

Have you ever tried eating 5000 calories? the most i've ever eaten of clean food was 3900 and that was trying to gain weight during water polo and i ate till i was about to puke every 2 hours.

For some one who is 160 you literally can't be eating that much.

Try keeping a journal of what your eat and when you eat it. That will help you keep your diet on track.

5000 calories isn't too hard to do if you are eating all the wrong stuff. Now like Weston stated and i'm sure everyone else here asumes is that eating 5000 cals with healthy food would be very very hard for someone your size. You can not get to your full potential without the correct diet.Post up what you are eating.

I did 5000 calories back as a 140lber, it is possible...I had 5 sandwhiches postworkout today which totalled 1500 calories, plus a 650 calorie breakfast, and a 400 calorie lunch, and a 250 pre workout meal thats 2800 and its only 3pm, il be having 3 more meals today with snacking between and milk drinking, to get me to a nice 5500-6000 calories.

I was in the same situation as you before JDS, with same calories, at an even lighter weight, if you are indeed telling the absolute truth, your training must suck-real bad.

Mine did, and thats why i didnt grow, as soon as i sorted diet out with less calories and much better training i had no trouble.

If im honest it sounds pretty weird that youre not gaining any weight even in 3 months, i mean the reason i didnt was because i was all over the place, skipping days, skipping meals sometimes and in general screwing about, if you got a proper program together with that many calories youd be adding mental amounts of weight.

Next youll say youre endomorphic .
