Why Can't I Cut Any Weight? - Thursday, July 29, 2004 5:56 PM ( #1 )
No matter what I do, I can't seem to drop any weight (I've acually put on about 8lbs over 6 months). When I started lifting I was around 152lbs, now I'm around 160lbs. I did the carb cycling to the letter for 2 months. The first month did nothing so I started doin' it low, no, low, high, low, no, low. Did that for the 2nd of the 2 months. Nothing. Started takin' creatine on 6/8. Went up 40lbs on all my back exercises in a week, went up 20lbs in all arm exercises, and up in all other exercises. My bench has been goin up 5lbs a week for the last couple months. I do cardio 3-4 times a week (30mins on the bike at a 600-700cal hour rate. Heart rate in the 150's). I workout 6-7 days a week. I'm just lookin' to cut another 5-10lbs and get rid of this stomach. I'm 5"10 is that helps. Any ideas?

Sounds to me like your gaining muscle or your body is storing every lil bit of nutrient it can! You should get a bodyfat % check done and keep track of it. Weight is hard to go by.

1494 calories? Sounds like your starving yourself! Increase your protein intake a bit but keep the carbs and fat the way they are. Get atleast 200g of protein or more.
For breakfast, try to slip in some egg whites.

If you hit 2000 cals a day you should be fine, dont think of it as too much, cuz its not.. at 160lbs especially. Have you calculated how much u burn?

No clue how much I burn but I'm thinkin' about goin' on a bulking diet and then cutting since this isn't workin' for me. That's just a rough idea of what I have each day. I usally put another 1/2 scoop of protein in my PWO shake so that'd be another 12g of protein and 50 cals and I usally have another protein bar so that'd be another 150cals, 2g carbs, and 15g protein. I just wanna get some abs.

Hate to break it to ya bro... your 160 and your 5"10, you really need to bulk up as it would benefit you much more than losing that last little layer of fat. Up your calories specifically your protein. Good luck.

Well first of all as others have said you should be eating around 2000 cals if you want to lose weight not 1500 and if you are now "kicking up" your cals to bulk then go for the 2600-2700 cals mark if not even more.

Sounds like you have put on 8 pounds of muscle buddy, you should be dancing on the hill tops. If you honestly think that eating that little and working out is going to make you fatter during your beginner gains phase then you are, well, wrong.

Also you say that you work out 6-7 days a week. That is to much, you should not do more than 10 sets per body part per week. It is the rest which enables growth and if you train say 8 sets with your back on wed then you should be giving it a full week to recover, even if it doesnt feel like it needs it. It is in this rest period that it grows. While you are not severely overtraining or anything when you work out with the certain body parts on certain days training split then 5-7 days are pretty essential, with 7 being easier to follow due to weekly cycling. I suggest taking sat and sunday off and giving the body a bit of a chance to recover and grow and strengthen.

Also if your numbers are going up as you say they are that is a pretty good indication that your muscles are getting bigger and therefore stronger (dont bring in myofibular vs sarcofibular, he is in beginner phase) so you most likely have lost a few pounds of fat but gained alot more muscle and should not be concerned with weight, instead go by appearance.

As to abs, abs are damn hard to get itll a while to get them unless you are genetically luckly. Bulk for 8-12 weeks then go on a very strict cut using proper methods (work out how much you burn in a day(including cardio and everything else) and minus 500 from this) and after you have trained for a year or 2 you will pretty much know how to manipulate your diet to the cal to get results. While you are in your current phase your body is changing to quickly to go on measurements like wieght. Hey you want to lose some wieght really quick! Dont eat or drink for 5 hours after you wake up after a long nights sleep then go measure yourself - then drink a gallon or 2 and stuff yourself to the brim. Hello 10 pounds - you think a single gram of that was bodyfat?
