Whey Protein
-
Thursday, May 10, 2007 5:36 AM
Hey DB, this is my first post. Although i have been reading up the last 3-4 months. Just a few quick questions. 1.Should i be drinking the Whey protein shakes on off-days? 2. Should i be drinking muscle weight gainers or whey protein after cardio workouts? Thanks, AJ

1. On off days, really it's up 2 u. If you have sufficient protein intake in the day, without the shakes, I wouldn't drink it. Whey is for the fast acting protein, and you don't need fast acting protein in off days. You can still have high quality protein from the food. 2. The main idea about getting shakes after cardio, is that your body will alter catabolic mode, and will get your body to anabolic mode. Either whey protein or whey gainers are fine, depending on your goal. What's your goal BTW? Good luck.

You can't really loose your belly fat while gaining muscle. You have to choose your goal first. What's your bodyfat percentage? If it's above 20%, I would recommend you to melt some fat first. In this case, why are you considering weight gainers? You should stick to whey protein.IMO. Keep posting.

Hey trubeginner, Thanks for the replies. My bodyfat according to the electronic scales is 24-25% . Don't know how accurate they are though. The main reason i bought the product is because the store owner recommended it! Havent used this product yet though. The package says "Ideal for: Professional athletes and bodybuilders who want maximum muscle gains whilst minimising excess body fat." "Muscle Weight Gainer" at http://www.vitalstrength.com/vs_mens.html Nutritional info at: http://www.vitalstrength.com/products/pdf/mens_muscle.pdf Should i just refund this?

i wouldnt drink protein on offdays.. i feel its a waste of protein, but thats just me.. and yea.. id stick with the whey protein instead of the weightgainer.. just with you working out and doing cardio, you'll shed the fat..and using whey instead of weightgainer will help u in the process.

Truebegginer is right. At 20-25% BF you should probably concentrate on cutting up a bit first. Possibly kick up the cardio to more days a week, possibly every day if you can. You will also need to have a slight caloric deficit of say 500 below your maintenance. Make sure you still lift weights 3-4 days to stop your body eating all your muscles away and not look like a marathon runner. I did something like this and dropped 15% BF in a few months without losing any visible muscle. Actually looked bigger in the mirror as my muscles started to show. Then when you are satisfied with your BF %, start a bulking phase. Like the other guys say, try to stick to just Whey, the Mass Gainers powders are full of simple carbs which you dont really need except pre/post workout nutrition. Good luck!

i would like to suggest taking a casien at night so you do not burn all your muscle off, if you are going to be doing all that cardio. for your cardio do hiit after your lifts, it only takes a few minutes and it works great.

What you meant to 3-4 days of lifting is don't lift too much, or lift adequately so your muscles won't break ? Well, in my opinion, in your cutting phase(I am refering to AJ14), you shouldn't use whey gainers, and stick to whey protein. You should do more reps with a bit lighter weights during cutting. When you look to bulk up, then, a whey gainer, is probably worth thinking.

You mean, post workout ? When are you going to drink it? It depends on your protein intake during the time. A wise principle is not to consume 50grams of protein during a 2 hour period. This means, if you just have 50g, don't eat anything in a 2 hour time. After workout, you should look for simple carbs, like honey, banana. I would drink 1.5 scoop of it. You are welcome! Good luck!

ORIGINAL: fresha Why do you say that? Because, everone's capaballity of digesting protein is different. Too much protein in a meal will lead to the abundancy of protein, which will be transfered to fat. So, I would say that 50grams of protein in a 2 hour time is a wise principle.
