Whey Protein - Less effective after 20 mins or so?

Hi, I've recently been making a whey protein shake a day, and consuming it throughout the day (little and often). However, I was told by someone that the protein starts to break down once mixed, so ideally you need to make it just before your workout so you can consume it throughout and after. Otherwise it becomes non-effective. I'm only making it in the morning and finishing it at night, so a maximum of 16 hours, should I be worried about the protein breaking down? I just get fed up of taking the protein to the gym every time, just gets in the way and the shaker often leaks a little. Any advice appreciated. Thanks.

I always have a shake after a workout, and then try to have a meal within 2 hours.

Yeah I've heard the same.. that the amino acids are unstable in water for long durations, or something, right? I'm not sure if it's true, but I decided I'd rather err on the side of caution. If you find postworkout nutrition too tedious, then something is terribly wrong. IMO, get a shaker that doesn't leak and just freakin do it.

Take a zip lock bag full of powder, poor the powder into your water bottle, then fill your water bottle up with water from the fountain, stir it up and drink it. Unless you live 2 hours from the gym I don't see a significant difference. Just try to take it before 30 minutes after your workout.
