Ok, I've found a competition that I'm really interested in. It's the Arkansas State Bodybuilding, Figure and Fitness held on August 25. I found a really good list of comps (http://www.npcnewsonline.com/new/PDFfiles/NPC_ContestListing.pdf), but all it says is what and when and where. I've ran a search on google with the name of the comp, but I can't find out anything. What I want to know is: is it tested?; what are the weight/age divisions?; and how do I go about signing up? Thanks in advance. And if I figure everything out and do decide to go for sure, I may have more questions about when and how to start preparing, etc.

The show is the NPC Arkansas State Bodybuilding, Fitness & Figure Championship, at the Robinson Center Music Hall, in Little Rock, Arkansas on August 25th. The promoter is Chad Nicholls and he can be reached by mail at Post Office Box 9101, Springfield, MO 65801, or you can call him at 417 889-9056. His email address is TheDietDoc@aol.com Most NPC state shows are restricted to residents of that state. This is a non-tested event, so expect BIG competitors. If you are interested in tested (natural) shows, let me know and I will help you find one.

Ok, thank you very much. And yeah, I'm definitely interested in natural comps (I want to stand a chance), but the only one near me (NW Arkansas) was 6 days ago... I may need to wait another year or so because I have a few lagging body parts (chest, calves) and it may take longer than two months to prepare for a competition. Most competitions have a light heavyweight class that runs from 176.25 to 198.25 pounds. I'd like to be right at the upper limit of that, which would definitely be next year. I weigh 185 right now and I'm about 8% bodyfat. Could I cut nearly 10 lbs. and be lean enough for the middleweight class in two months?

You could lose ten pounds and be lean enough for the middleweight class, but you might not be competitive enough for your first competition. The middleweight class is traditionally the toughest class and usually produces the Overall Winner at shows. I spent 10 months preparing for my first contest. I trained and dieted for that entire time to get ready. At my first natural show, I placed Third in Novice, Third in Open Short (yes, I did the Open, too) and First in Men's Master 60+. It was actually my second show. Two weeks earlier, I entered a large non-tested NPC show in Kentucky and placed Sixth out of six in Open Bantanweight and 10th out of 11th in Men's Master 50+ (I was 61). When you do your first show, you should compete in the Novice class, which is by weight (Novice Lightweight, Novice Middleweight and Novice Heavyweight). It's the best way to enter the game and to learn what this is all about. The other Novices will be in the same boat and you will have a good chance to win a trophy. Then, at your next show, compete in the Open class at whatever weight you are at that time. To be really competitve, you need to be at no more than 4% body fat on stage.

I think I'm going to wait and do one of the two shows that I've been looking at next summer then. Will that one that you had the info on have a novice division?
