Where to go from intermediate routines??

So almost all strength/power routines that ive seen are alterations of a 5x5 routine. This is understandable since it is shown to greatly improve strength. However, where do you go when your improvements stall on these routines...especially the "non-linear" routines like the texas-method etc. The point of the texas method is that you have reached a point were linear progression is no longer possible, hence the start of undulating programs like the texas method. But where do you go when your progress stalls here? When stalling on your strength/power routine convential wisdom would suggest you simply follow the designated periodization cycle and just jump back into hypertrophy, endurance, maintenance phase etc. which is doable. However, I was just wondering what you all out there had in terms of advanced strength/power routines, specifically those that deviate from the normal 5x5 routines. Or do you find that most strength routines stay true to the 5x5 template and when they do deviate from it they simply up the sets and drop the reps? Im interested to see what "advanced" routines you have out there or how power routines are supposed to evolve as you adapt to them.

I don't really buy the periodization. Go for micro cycles instead, that way your never weak in any one area. Westside has some rock solid principles to keep you progressing without ever stalling.

Periodization is essentially made up of microcycles...but thats another topic. Whats westside? Im just interested in seeing what people have as far as "advanced" powerlifting/strength routines.

im interested in this too as i no longer seem to progress and my constant attempts to increase weight for periodization just results in screwed up workouts.

spenny: I like the russian routine very much (the ontario link) it is very interesting to say the least and appears to be the next step above the texas method or other intermediate routines i was looking for. Do you by any chance have any personal experience with this routine? know anything about it that wasnt on the page?? Thanks again.

spenny: also whats the deal with the last link (the excel spreadsheet) and the 120% x3 overload in bold? Is that a set of negatives at the end? I cannot determine what those bold markings under the daily workouts mean. thanks. sorry for so many questions.

Remember that doing as advanced routine doesn't necessarily mean it will take you to advanced levels. If you're not fit enough to deal with the volume you will tire yourself out quickly, be rubbish at work/school, maybe get ill after a few weeks and have made little progress. Workouts with that much volume are not that fun either, you're just looking forward to the end of each workout. It may even be possible for you to take Texas method or other ones further. But no harm in giving Smolov a try. If it kicks your butt just stop. I haven't done it. You wouldn't want to do anything extra which is not included in the program. Look on other forums where people have made journals of their progress with it. You could also write to the authors for more help with any questions. Most of those will answer.
