JustBB, Having too much can be bad for you. A body with too much protein, can generate a range of concerns through a range of systems functioning in your body. (A brief example is your urinary system - In addition, liver problems have been well documented as well). Providing you are eating correctly, protein powder should be used certainly immediately after your work out - however a rough reccommendation, is 3 times a day (at most) - however with correct diet, even 3 times may be considered excessive. A personal opinion, some of which can be backed by research, is that protein powder is far overconsumed, in the fight for better physique, and body image; where many people (college athletes by example) fail to understand the reality behind their usage.. most people searching for advice from friends and family, rather than health professionals. A study led by Paul Roetert quite obviously addressed the varied definitions, and levels of understanding behind what supplements are, and their validity of use. There is no doubt protien powder is of use and has benefits, to supplement protien intake in your diet; however people rely on powder too much, rather than using adequate meals as a form of the required intake. Do keep in mind, that scientific research, and updates are continually made that can critically review and challenge traditional standing grounds on such issues as supplements. This thread was originally devised in 2004, where in the present 2006; many developments and discoveries have been made to constrast such topics.
