Whats your last meal of the day? - Saturday, May 24, 2008 8:37 PM
I've always heard that it's important to not get much carbs in your last meal, to have something with casein protein like cottage cheese, and to have a healthy fat. Also vegetables are good

so i usually have something like cottage cheese, peanutbutter or whole eggs, and brocolli.

however i've heard of people saying the cottage cheese isnt good because of the natural simple sugars and the peanutbutter/whole eggs are bad because u dont want to have fat if ur just going to go to sleep soon.

what are your thoughts on that and whats your last meal of the day?

 Cottage cheese.

You don't need to worry about the sugars in it, any fat you gain from it will be minute, and the pros of it definitely outweigh the cons.

ur last meal is just cottage cheese?

I've heard to have it but the issue of fat gain never came up, i didn't really even think about the simple sugars in it.

Some bodybuilders i know actually have complete meals all the way up until the last one. With as much carbs and calories as any other one.

Typically nothing on this cycle. If it's not past 9:00pm and I'm starving, I might have a bowl of high protein cereal, or a shake, but nothing beyond that. And if it's past 9pm, I fight it.

-If it's a strength cycle, then a big caseinate dominant shake. Something like a Cytosport Muscle Milk or BSN Syntha 6.

well.. i have 6 - 8 meals a day.   usually the next last feeding period is the HUGE meal (my supper).  i'll bake some chicken breasts, and slice them up and have fajitas...  or make whole wheat pasta or something.

and then right before bed-time... my last "meal" consists of heaping spoonfuls of low-fat cottage cheese.

My name is FOX.... and I approve this message.

Protein is needed to make muscle yes, but it doesnt magically happen.

Most repair and recovery takes place while sleeping it appears physically, and this requires a lot of ENERGY, you could eat just protein, but without carbs or fat your body wouldnt do much good, before i go to bed i make a massive dish of pasta and tuna with a glass of milk (500ml) and drizzle the pasta to deat with oil.

Then again im ecto, also notice the ectos posted here all have high carb end of day meals...

So our ideas and ways might not count for much lol.

damn those are big for the last meal.

it makes sense to me that u should have carbs at night because it takes energy to recover at night and if u have carbs it will be protein sparing which is of course good.
so i tried this and put 6oz of sweet potatoes in my last meal of the day (and more carbs in general) and i gained about 1.5lb. of fat and lost almost 1/2lb. of muscle
the next week when i backed it off to about 2 oz. of sweet potatoe i gained about 1.5lb. of LBM so since then i've just gone back to my original way of just vegetables as carbs in my last meal.
i cant really isolate the results to just that though because in the 2 weeks prior to trying the higher carbs in the last meal i gained a ton of fat one week and lost an equivalent amount the next.

usually now its just cottage cheese, eggs, vegetables.

150g of baked chicken- about 30g of protein
3 whole grain tortillas: 75-80g of carbs
28 almonds (yes I count them)- 14g of fat.

adds up to between 600 and 700 calories I believe.

And that is planned to be 2 hours before bed. Right before I get into bed I have 2 scoops of muscle milk which works out to 32g of protein and another 300? calories or so.

lol yeh, im eating about 900 calories a meal 6 times a day nowadays, im hitting 5500 cals a day and losing bodyfat.

Im going to say the same as nearly every other member has, throw the damn calipers away david measuring 1/2lbs of lean weight on a 160lbs frame is like measuring a test tube of cola going into a swimming pool.

Its SO easy to make 1/2lbs of lean mass get added on, i could do it by taking no more than an 1/8 of an inch off my actual abdominal region, il prove it.

Heres some hypotheticals

http://www.linear-software.com/online.html

first one there

I typed in 5 in all of them

183.49 for someone age 20 at 190lbs bodyweight

lets make one a 4 on abdominals

183.80

Just off 1/2 a lbs because of 1MM less!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

lol i really wish i could experience that.
going through the training and diet, knowing im not gonna have to cut ever if i dont want to, stuffing my face all day and just watching myself slowly gain muscle. so many good meal options too with such high calories

I know, and im just trying to point out to you that from your C my P pictures youre not fat, and you do need to bulk up some muscle, if you see a "fat gain" on the caliper it could be 1mm of wrong measuring, just 1 damn milimetre and you think youve gained fat.

Eat big (for you) life big, and youll get to a nice 175-190lbs at 5'11", once you reach that weight, THEN you can start thinking about perfecting a diet whereby you need to stay cut and gain muscle, until then just enjoy simple eating and lifting.

You remind me so much of vdk, always had his head in a book or on a webpage preaching info around the boards, and sure, he was correct a lot of the time, but theyre pro workouts and pro diets, of people with different metabolic nature, there mere fact they have a vastly huger muscle mass already makes there diet not for you.

Muscle mass changes so many biochemical properties you wouldnt even find it funny, not to mention fat burning abilities.

Just eat and lift david, i seriously hope you one day throw them calipers away and monster it, and im not gonna lie, you probably will gain fat to 14-16% bodyfat, but youll have a nice 15-20lbs muscle gain too.
