I reserve the metal for deadlift and squat days. Occassionally, I toss it in on upper body days too, when I feel like lobbing explitives at the mirror after pounding out a set (thank you all for your input, BTW. Some of the recent additions to my melting pot have been quite inspirational indeed). But on most days, I just like to toss a mix of pop and hard rock on the system. My musical tastes run the gamut, from cheesey 80's synth pop to death-metal. If you want a few laughs, most of these tracks are pure Oblivion cheese, but they seem somehow appropriate: "Be Good to Yourself" by Journey "Walkin' on Sunshine" by Katrina & the Waves "Take on Me" by A-Ha "Kyrie" by Mr. Mister "Big Time" by Peter Gabriel "Heaven in My Hands" by Level 42 "Panama" by Van Halen "Higher Ground" by Red Hot Chili Peppers "Tuff Enough" by The Fabulous Thunderbirds "Workin' for a Livin'" By Huey Lewis & The News "Point of No Return" by Nu Shooz "Desire" by U2 "Roll with the Changes" by REO speedwagon "We Built this City" by Jefferson Starship "Human NRG" by The Shamen "Always on the Run" by Lenny Kravitz "Devil Inside" by INXS "Eye of the Tiger" by Survivor - DON'T GIVE ME THAT SMIRK! EVERY man who grew up watching "Rocky" movies has secretly played this one on his headphones during a workout at least ONCE, HA HA HA HA

Well at the ymca where i workout they got like a bird by nellie fertardo or whatever and pretty much every song in that category. During december they played christmas music....thats what i get for working out with 70 year old men who swing their arms back and forth with 5lb weights while walking...mmm gotta love it. But i got an ipod now and i got my music goin. Audioslave and rage are great....tool and deftones are also amazing. anything in that area will do the trick..

In our weight lifting class the coach turns on some "light jazz" or some crap like that. When we request that he turn it, he tells us that it's the only station approved to be played in the school. We can't even bring our own CD Players/MP3 Players.

<sigh> It's looking possible that I'm the only classical geek. Stravinsky Rite of Spring--is this possibly the most energy and sexually-overtone packed music ever composed? Prokofiev Romeo et Juliette (suites)--the vicious feud music, the orgasmic love music, the grave scene, etc. Beethoven Sym. No. 5 (esp. finale) Shostakovich (any symphony, 5, 8, 10, 11 are my favs) -- gotta love the hysterics, especially in those poor winds Wagner -- any overture/prelude; the man was an ass, but his overtures are great, yeah, and ride of the valkyries, although I'm over it now. More mellow--Bach, Vivaldi, etc.

Well, G, I do have a few that I keep on ice for the occasional apocolyptic total-body workout: Tchaikovsky "The Tempest, Op. 18" Tchaikovsky "Symphony No. 4 in F minor, Op. 36" (except for the third movement, which -despite the clever pizzicato strings- does not mix well with iron) Verdi "Dies Irae" from Massa Da Requiem I save the Mozart for recouperation, and sipping a fine '02 Bollinger Estate Reserve vintage protein shake, Ha ha ha ha

oooh, Tchai's 4th, good choice, especially the 1st movement with those wailing horns and hyper, steroid-laced strings. Do you know Szell's recording with the London Symphony? Legend has it that the recording engineers, after the first take, played it back to Szell in the most miserable sound they could muster. Szell got so pissed, that he raged against the orchestra and lit a huge fire under their ass. The result is hard to believe. How many headphones can one go through when they are incinerated after listening to it?!? Everything else sounds like diluted wine--the flavor is there, but why bother? :) The Tempest is an interesting choice, must be a filler on your Tchai 4 recording? :) I don't know about Mozart being just for recuperation! What about the opening mov't of 25 or parts of the Requiem?!?

Mudvayne, Slipknot, Nonpoint, Sevendust, Primer 55, Ill Nino, Thousand Foot Krutch, Ear Shot, Disturbed, Rob Zombie, Pantera, Scars Of Life, Five Point O, Filter, Drowning Pool, Blindside, Avenged Seven Fold.. There may be others but I can't think of them right now.
