Can't say for sure about canadian money- Here in the US a basic setup like that can cost 250-300 to start. That's a three hundred pound olympic set of weights, and a decent bench with just those basic functions you described. I'm sure you could do an online search for some canadian stores and find more accuracy when it comes to the currency though.

Depending on where you are in Canada, you should be able to look in a Bargainfinder or some such magazine that sells used stuff. There's a million New Year's heroes that are about ready to give up on their resolutions to get fit and are selling off the bench and weights they bought January 1st. Really, you should get some great deals, and are likely to spend around $100 - $200 for something decent.

I bought an Olympic incline and decline with weight holders and preacher curl attachment for $100 (US). It was retailed for $350, but I waited until they sold out and bought the display.

FREE stuff:

A friend of my mother gave me one of those universal gym's. It's basically a large group of cable machines that run on pulleys on a single stack of weights. Has leg extensions, pull downs, squat attachment, and even an ab-crucher.

I picked up a Jack LaLane rowing machine at a yard sale for $5. Works great (after I greased and cleaned it some).

As for weights, I picked up a set of Olympic 5-45 (Weider), EZ-curl bar, and some dumbells for free. My neighbor's son went off to college and gave me the set.

I suggest if you want to save money keep an eye out for yard sales and ask around. It helps to have a friend working at a fitness store as well, lol Smile

ljohnson8 ,

This is what I picked up in Vancouver, BC used.

(10) 25 Pound Plates
(12) 10 Pound Plates
(8) 5 Pound Plates
(4) 2.5 Pound Plates
(2) Barbells
Curl Bar
Straight Bench Bar

Picked up all that for $150.00

Check your local buy/sell.
I assume you are from Ontario? Check out www.buysell.ca

I then went to a local shop to buy a bench.
Incline/Decline/Flat $200.00

Hope that helps.
