Hi everyone, im fairly new to this... Only been working out for 3 months now and I am learning alot. My question is if I lift and then right after do cardio for 30-45 minutes, what should I eat 5 minutes later? After I lift I usually have protein shake and around 50 -70 carbs. But since im lifting and doing cardio, do I ONLY want to consume protein right after?

2nd Question. If I decide to just do cardio at night, alone, I am still confussed as what is ideal to eat after. An hour before I would drink a pure protein shake. No carbs, not fat. Right after cardio, I would consume another protein shake, no carbs or fat? One hour and a half later I would consume protein, carbs, fat? Any help is appreciated. Thanks guys.

Hmmm no expert on this but id say what youre doing is right.

If you wish to burn fat via cardio then the best way to do it is by making your body have minimal carbs so it has to use its fat storage to do the work, and its best to take in protein anytime, protein has little fat/calorific value and can be used somewhere in the body with minimal fat gain, so never worry about taking too much protein-its impossible, unless you go psycho on the shakes and meat.

After a workout id have more than a protein shake, maybe protein shake, banana (helps recovery) and plenty of water, and possibly a little fish/meat snack.

Depends if youre trying to lose or gain weight

if youre trying to lose-less carbs more protein.
gain weight-more carbs, more protein, even more carbs, more protein, and repeat LOL.

I think you need more carbs after your workout, you really burn alot of the fat during cardio after your resistance training, but once done your body is in a catabolic state, and getting some carbs in is generally a good thing. The best weight loss is better when you create a caloretic deficite via cardio so burn 300 calories in cardio that is 300 calories burnt in fat, but when done, if not stopped your body will start to use muscle for energy.........

So reguardless of what your goals are carbs are good, just watch what kind they are, and how much of them you eat.....

I'm no expert but you need some carbs right after lifting and cardio. Your body needs carbs, just get them from something other than refined sugars. I like a bowl of cereal after a good workout along with some whey isolate.
You could make a protein shake with some fruit and skim milk.
