What does it weight? - Wednesday, June 04, 2008 9:42 PM
Ok, Its been awhile since I've been at the gym (1998). My memory is not as crisp as it once was. I need to know what the weights are on some of the equipment I now see.
Does the standard straight bar (that holds oly weights) weight 35 or 45lbs? Collars for the bar, 5lbs? A seated leg press sled weights, what? I'm pushing 440lbs on it, but don't know the sled weight or if it is figured into the equation. Any other equipment weights you all can tell me would be very helpful.
Thanks,
WD

45lbs for a standard Olympic bar.

Sleds are variable.  Some are 45 lbs.. others are a heck of a lot less.  Depends on the angle and the equipment.

Collars are variable.  The sping clips.. not 5 lbs.  The real kind that twist maybe.  When it comes to that stuff, unless your gym is standardized across the board it is guesswork.

Bars are about the only thing you can tell and maybe some sleds if the trainers know of you can lookup that model and brand and get the info.

Ask a trainer in your gym or the gym manager one of them should know those things. You can put things like the bar and collars on the scale. I always weight ez bars because they land anywhere between 11lbs and 32lbs in my gym.

Ya it's worth actually weighing them. In the absence of which assume 45 with the spring collars.

I believe my gym has a bench-bar of 45lbs. However, my fellows in the gym say it is around 10kg, which is around 22lb.

I can't believe their words though. Try weighing them.

I've seen 7' long "supposed olympic bars", as in they were sold as olympic bars but they were 35 pounds instead of 45, and i honestly couldn't tell the difference at sight so i would try weighing all the possible equipment you can. Obviously you can't really weigh the sleds but I think you'll understand my point.

My 7' Oly bar weighs 40# with the spring clamps.  I'm sure there is some variance between different makers.  Mine is presumably foreign made, I got it at Dicks Sporting Goods.

Thanks for all the info. Sorry it took so long to get back. Was out on Vacation.
Never thought to ask the gym owner. I work out at 2am, I'm the only one in there most of the time. I'll have to stop by during the day and hit him up.
