Oh my God, Marc! You and I think exactly alike on that one! Since 2002 (having survived three layoffs), My philosophy has been that if I get a pink slip, I should be ready to walk with no more than 60 seconds prep, carrying no more than an armfull People at work think I'm OCD because I hose my entire cubicle down with Windex every morning, but that's the way I am. There's a keyboard, mouse, and monitor, my phone, my company laptop, a lucky bamboo, and a single photo of my Labrador. Only the last two items go with me, Ha ha ha ha! I don't post my awards on the walls, no coffee cups, no lamps, ZIP.

Yes, that's me in my avatar, and NO, I don't look like that today. That was taken back in Jan '07, and I lost most of that progress when I slacked off last year. I'm on my way back, tho, and I'm using that photo for inspiration.

Ok, I work at a law firm, and I have a nice sized office (nothing like the partners, of course). I have two book cases full of textbooks from undergrad and grad (biology, chemistry, physics), dictionaries (medical, Amer. Heritage, Stedman's Medical--I love dictionaries), CDs, client folders, water pitcher. On top of them is a Sharp cd/radio stereo and speakers lights and pictures of family and friends. Desk proper has, right now from Left (nearest the door) to right, which makes a huge "U", two client folders, 5 patent applications, a vase of orchids and roses from my sig. other, business cards, clock (from MOMA, I'm a MOMA whore), a U of Chicago mug full of pens and pencils, a bottle of fountain pen ink, an out box (yep, MOMA again) for my secretary piled high with projects, my "to-do" book, a retro lamp from the 1970's (very cool), cardboard speakers (MOMA again) hooked up to my Dell Latitdue D600 mediocre laptop, Cisco IP phone, a stack of CDs for burning, a couple of exercise CDs, a very cool table fan from MOMA, a cyclamen that the firm gave us two Christmases ago (mine is the only one not only alive, but still blooming) a clamp halogen lamp (oops, that's also on the opposite side of my desk), a three hole punch (extra heavy duty, special request), a two-hole punch, stapler, a client file, Marc's book that I've been proofing on the side (see Marc, it hasn't slipped off the burner yet!). My drawers, um, well, papers, files, folders, envelopes, tape, tabs, post its, ibuprofen, dental floss, toothpaste, toothbrush, tea, lightbulbs, calculator, protein powder, um, er, yeah, more stuff, etc. It's all organized though. I also have a floor lamp. On my walls are my PhD diploma, a picture of my son when he was 1, a fingerpainting of his (framed) that he did when he was 2, another picture hard to describe but involves my cats, my law school schedule, a diagram of how the patent cooperation treaty works today, an Unfit cartoon (the one on overhead trcipes cat extensions), directions on how to automatically number and internally refer and track claims in my applications using MS Word, and "The Organized Executive TRAFs everything! list, oh, another son-produced water color and a picture that my last house gave me in which I was a resident head and they autographed (*sniff*). It's a lot of crap, but once the books came, necessary for work, I was like, what the hell! Might as well make it as comfortable as possible. People love my office, they come to relax and chat sometimes in one of the two guest chairs. I also need lots of light especially on crappy days like today when there is no sun so I don't get SAD.

Veg, dont sweat it, everyone tells me I should buy stock in 409 and that canned air because I go through the stuff like its free. I know I have OCD either that or I'm anal....going with OCD lol

I really thought I would be banned from replying to this thread. I'll be nice and save you all the details, though...

OMG, I have so much crap in my office that sometimes I just look at it all and laugh. I have memorabilia from the Navy and from my business background. I have a TV, computer, Sirius Radio (we are a programmer), reference books, a plant, several pictures and plaques, a regular radio, a personal fax machine. a very cluttered desk, both on top and in the drawers. I manage three divisions and get copied on everything. I also get a slew of trade journals and reports. About every six months, I ask Maintenance to drop off a large trash can and I fill it. LOL
