What weight am I lifting, anyway?! - Thursday, October 09, 2008 2:54 PM ( #1 )
Hi everybody,

I'm curious if there is a standard chart I can reference somewhere to better determine how much weight I'm lifting.  My machine is a Pacific multi-function with plates in the following:

1-5 are small plates
6-15 are medium sized plates and
16-20 plates are the largest.

Any idea on how to measure weight?

Thanks.

I did a little digging and it appears to be a Catalina Pacific Fitness 3-stack.  If that's correct then the machine has 205 lbs. stacks.

1 – 5 lb cap plate
5 – 5 lb weights
10 – 10 lb weights
5 – 15 lb weights
 ===================
 total: 205 lbs per stack

You gotta ditch that nonsense and get yourself a barbell.

Do you have a weight scale at your house? Measure your weight first and then stand on it while holding one of the dumbeslls or weights. Then subtract your weight from the weight when you were holding it.

A machine's a good place to start, but eventually you gotta move onto free weight stuff.
