What to eat post-workout, not talking about whey shakes - Thursday, February 19, 2009 12:33 PM ( #1 )
After my workout, I immediately chug whey protein, a bit of creatine(which I cycle off of), and plain ol sugar. But I dont know what sort of MEAL to be eating afterwards. After drinking your shake during your "golden hour" when are you supposed to actually eat next? And WHAT do you eat?

Tonight I'm cooking haddock w/ pasta, broccoli, and cauliflower mixed in some butter, garlic, and black pepper.

I'll eat that about an hour after I finish my shake.

A balanced meal as soon as you can.

Today I had steak potatoes and carrots, pretty high in calories and some sugar in carrots.  Decent meal for post workout especially when gaining.

ive always personally made a rule, where i have a banana and shake within 20mins of finishing my workout. then a BIG balanced meal 60 mins after my shake.

which is normally a steak, jacket potato and baked beans.

I love butter, and it ain't as bad for you as some might think.  Especially if it's raw butter.

Yep I'm with you there King, I use organic butter, it's pure, nothing added unlike that trashy lo-fat type spreads. It's just sat fat, not trans fats or anything like really bad like that.

I always take 1 scoop of whey, 1 scoop of musclemilk, 8oz. of milk, a bananna. Adds up to around 50g of protein.

whey = 24g
musclemilk = 16g
milk = 8g
bananna = 1g

Total of 49g.

Butter is great, I would never buy the spread crap.  Only thing added in my butter is salt.

A fibrous carb, starchy carb, and lean protein meal!

I usually eat brown rice, steak/chicken/fish, and veggies... or pasta(love it!)
