What ingredients on food products to steer clear from? - Tuesday, August 26, 2008 7:53 PM
I've been reading labels on food products quite religiously now. One thing I know to avoid is HFCS(thanks to the sticky), but what else do I avoid when reading labels?

How about regular fructose?
Glucose? (Don't even know what that is, anything that rhymes with "lucose" i have no idea.)

List anything one should be on the lookout for =D.

Sorry, still a nub.

I'd avoid anything that says "Only (insert low number) calories".

no, not at all that is a preservative trans-fat and the body really can't do anything with it and ends up deposited in your arteries.

Your arteries need a good workout every now and again.

-I stay away from anything pre packaged.
-I cook a lot so that I have control of what I put in my food. I think this is best. It is more work, but is better for your body/goals.
-sodium is what I look at, anything ending with "lose" additives, stuff I just cannot pronounce.
-I also buy "natural" and "organic"   I still look at the labels tho. Natural and organic is good marketing too, so I still read the labels. Organic can also be expensive.

Pretty much.

I get fed up when i see an easy cook food, and then i see the dreaded labels

"Low fat"
"Low calories"

Might as well just sell boxes of air.

Pisses me off immensely when foods have low calories, its kind f disheartening and morale breaking, the last thing you need is to be chewing on something for 20 minutes to find out youve only had 200 odd calories.
