What NOT to do with your diet - Saturday, January 10, 2004 2:45 PM ( #1 )
I think we could solve nutritional problems easier if we develop a clear cut list of what NOT to do in your diet. Kind of like the list you see in a zoo: "Do NOT feed the animals", "Keep your hands out of the cage"....stuff like that. Stuff that should be common sense, but we have been too busy to know what is common sense anymore.

KEEP HANDs OFF THE CANDY

Well common sense here, let me use mine hold on a sec.... .... ....
Alright well, do not eat food high in sugars (especially monosacharides like glucose!)

Make sure you are consuming carbohydrates at the correct times that correspond with your training.

Stomach Stapling and Other Permanent Means - Saturday, January 10, 2004 2:53 PM ( #3 )
I think the worst thing you could do to your body is stomach stapling or whatever other procedures that are done that are permanent!

I know someone who has done this and they have seen great results. BUT she had to gain a lot of weight to do it. She intentionally gained weight to have her stomach stapled and made smaller. She lost something like 80 lbs in 4 months or something like that. Most of which was lost after the surgery.

What she doesn't realize is that she will end up gaining that weight back. Sure she'll get sick if she eats too much. But her stomach will still grow bigger and it doesn't change the amount of fat that can be stored in her body! She forced herself permanently to go on a stupidly restrictive liquid diet because of this surgery after it happened.

She kept saying that weight watchers didn't work or any other diet. Ummm....maybe if she looked at her diet a little better she'd realize that she had to throw some excercise in there and that just owning a treadmill doesn't get you the excercise. She got bored of the treadmill. She ate breakfast at a restraunt every morning (and still does), but claimed she watched her weight at other times.

Common sense would say that you change your diet and you excercise more before you go with such a drastic measure as permanent things.

IMHO, I want the ability to down a turkey dinner at thanksgiving and work my butt off the next month to loose the weight from the gain. You can't do that with such drastic things.

It's a lifestyle change, but wait until you get sick of not eating as much of something that you want sometimes. THe key is moderation and self-control.

To right it is! You shouldn't have to have such drastic changes in your life, be good to your body and have fun with life.
