Well I lost 5 more lbs. after being stuck at 180 for almost 2 months

How the hell did I do it??? Well, I just don't know, but I think it's a mix of jumpstarting my metabolism and switching my routine. First off, my goal has been to get to 170, and maintain. I think I will be in my best fighting shape at this weight (not to mention that I'll be one sexy a** mofo). Okay, so I was stuck at 180 lbs. ON THE MONEY for almost 2 months. I have been pretty strict on my diet during the week, which is mostly low carb (sunday through thursday. Friday's and Saturdays I get wasted and eat as many carbs as I want). Now, my caloric intake was actually a bit too low I think, and I knew that further reducing calories probably was a bad idea because it would really f*** up my metabolism. Also, with the amount of activity I am doing with the MMA and the lifting, I could easily overtrain without enough food. I tried to avoid carbs during the week as much as possible (except for my protien shake w/milk in the mornings). And I considered my weekends my "Glycogen restoration" days. It sounds silly considering that I'm not necessarily "carb cycling" or following a keto diet, but I figured that I eventually needed to get some carbs in me, so I figure why not just call my 2 cheat days "carb up days", lol (an Irishman will make many rationalizations in order to make it seem that drinking his a** off is okay). So I eat things such as pizza, taco bell, bread, beer, etc....(I know my food choices aren't the best, but I don't care. All I care about is that I'm allowing myself to eat as many carbs as I want....I don't stuff myself though. I stay within reason, only NO carb restriction). So I was following that diet for a while, and I was stuck at 180, and I was like WTF???? So I started allowing myself MORE carbs during the week, but I still stuck to eating well, and BAM I lose 5 more lbs. I don't know what or why it happened, but I was always floating around 180 (and up around 182 - 183 come Monday morning), but this week I'm down to 175 (and I expect to be floating around 178 on Monday morning). Now, it could have something to do with my new routine to. I'm doing the 5/3/1 program by Jim Wendler (look it up if you wanna know more about it). It involves higher-rep assistance work after the main lift for the day. This higher rep work is kinda easy to me since I'm used to doing ALL low rep/heavy stuff, so in order to keep it challenging, I keep the rest times very short and still use weights that are challenging, yet still light enough to allow me to hit all the prescribed reps. The high rep/short rest stuff causes me to sweat my balls off. I don't know if the routine change contributed to anything though. So I'm not sure how I finally broke through my "plateau" of 180 lbs. But all I did was to eat more carbs during my "low carb days", and switch my routine. I was told by several people this past weekend that I'm "f***ing RIPPED!!!". That was a first, lol. I just figured I'd post this, because maybe people would like to discuss this. I went from 220 to 180 VERY easily, simply by adjusting my diet to the low-carb during the week/cheat on weekends diets, and taking the MMA classes. But getting past that 180 point has been KILLER for me, but I finally did it.

I guess it just proves how things work differently for different people. Sometimes going too low with your carbs can serve as negative. Regardless, good job with the cut though. My lazy ass has been 185 for like 6 months.

Thanks, ya I'm gonna get down to 170 and stay there. I'm too f***ing slow when I box, and it really pisses me off. I figure 170 is a good weight to work with.

If you cut too many calories it can put you in starvation mode and wreck your metabolism, I'm guessing your body was pretty well taxed and needed some breathing room.

It could've been the quicker rest times with the assistance work. It'd essentially be a tabata/HIIT type thing. Plus all the MMA stuff. Or maybe your body just works better etc with more carbs.
