Weight gaining issues - Wednesday, October 28, 2009 5:53 PM ( #1 )
Hi, my name is sam...I recently started working out about 2 weeks ago. I started with an already toned body ( Not buff, just the lack of body fat would make my abs show or what not...) I'm 17 ( Turning 18 this summer) about 5'9'' and due to my abormally high metabolism rate, my weight hasn't gone over or below 125 for the past 2 years.

For the passed 2 years or so, i've been eating massive amounts of food ( healthy, non healthy, didn't make a diffenrence) and haven't gained a pound. So recently, i figured since i can't gain weight for just eating, i'll start taking whey proteins and weight gainers. I actualy JUST bought a 5lb tub of IsoGainer, been taking a Whey protein for about 2 weeks, and my brother gave me about 3 weeks worth of Super pump 250 ( pre-work out supplement)

I have been getting amazing results lately, i' about 1 month or so away from an 8 pack, getting a pretty big bicep peak etc...BUT, still no weight.

Basically, i want to know how I, with my abnormally high metabolism, can gain body mass.

Eat more calories than your body burns, that's how you gain "body mass."

Yeah i agree with Daniel when i was new to BB i thought i was eating 'massive amounts' but it was really only 2500 or so calories a day which isnt really much at all.

create a diet and youll need to count your calories if your not gaining weight add more calories and so on.

Kk well..it's only 6PM now, but until now, i ate:

2 chocolate danishes, a plate of couscous and 2 chicken drum sticks, 2 slices of pizza, my weight gainer shake...I'm just about to start my work out ( For now i'm only doing bicep curls, push ups, sit ups and dumbell pressed ( All 4 sets of 10 with 15lb weights) followed by supper, then my weight gainer shake again.( I take the shake twice a day, 2 scoops + 2 cups of milk)

EDIT: Since counting calories seems to be an issue, starting tomorrow i'll begin calculating my daily caloric intake and i'll be sure to make any changes needed.

I'm gonna be honest, but thats not that much. Plus, you have had two weight gainer shakes instead of real food.

no back work?! or is that just todays workout?

also that doesn't look like a lot of food to be honest, when you calculate how much you intake calorie wise you will be surprised how much lower it is compared to what you think.

It's kind of hard to calculate a close estimate to my calorie intake since i don't make my own lunches at school and basically eat what ever they have there...

You aren't eating much at all..I don't doubt you have a high metabolism, but I think alot of people are raised to think that different ammounts are "alot". TBH, if I ate pizza like you did eating 2 pieces isn't worth my time, if I order pizza atleast a whole medium pizza is gonna be gone by the time i'm done with the meal. And i'm at 11% BF btw, without an extremely high metabolism..also your workout isn't worth doing. Find a good 5x5 (although lately i've been more a fan of 3x5's) workout and eat twice as much as what you do now. You will gain some fat, but that comes with bulking, and the muscle gains you make will be amazing, high metabolism is never an excuse.
Goals by end of 2009:
Bench 205
Squat 255 ATG
Squat Clean 185

I'm limited to how much i can eat a day because of school..Don't get me wrong, i know very well 2 slices of pizza is nothing lol, i go through a hole medium, maybe another half if i'm hungry...Reason i don't eat well at school is because the food is freaking expensive for nothing...and i don't have time to make my own lunches for school.

If i some up my daily food income it's like this :

10:30AM recess, i'll have 4 to 6 small croissants with a bottle of water
1:05PM: Eat whatever they're serving at the cafetiria, and have a tuna sandwich if i'm still feeling hungry...with a bottle of water
5PM-6PM ( I finish school at 4, walk home..no breaks between lunch and the end of school btw) i'll eat whatever i find worth eating, or order a subway sandwich :P

All that plus a weight gainer shake before school, and 1 after.

Ok so its now obvious that you are not eating enough,
solutions for this are to be smart with what you buy when you go food shopping, buying good bulking foods which are not over priced eg big bags of rice, potatoes. then protein sources such as tins of tuna and chicken if that isnt out of your price range.

also milk, veggies and fruit.

an idea may be to boil u a load of rice and add sum tuna or chicken and veggies, then take it to school with you and eat a load through out the day.

this should workout more cost effective and be beneficial to your bulk.

im sure others have got some other methods they have used to bulk on the cheap

hope this helps

Yeah I understand the problem.  I had a serious problem starving all day through school and never having enough to eat.  My first high school had a decent cafeteria since it was a closed campus, but the other was open and they pretty much expected you to go get fast food or something.  And it was almost 2 bucks per slice of pizza from the cafeteria, which adds up if you don't have a lot of money and most teenagers don't.  I wish I could go to high school and change how I ate and had twice as much, would have made school easier, after school activities where I didn't have time in between to eat go a lot better if I ate.

So realize that you are going to have to start packing some high calorie foods with you, you can't take much anything perishable cause probably don't have access to a fridge, so that also limits your options.  You can make shakes grind up walnuts oats and mix it with protein and keep it dry until you want to eat it. You can snack on nuts as well, or beef jerky, or even pnt butter jelly sandwiches with some milk if its available at school.  Its pretty important that you get calories in you early in the day if your goal is bulking. wake up early and make eggs and oatmeal, takes 3-5 minutes to make, or if you have more time bacon and hashbrowns.

And don't forget to eat a lot in the evening.
